- Spring 2023 Recap (Jul 24th, 2023) -
- Split Up Splits Away (Apr 18th, 2023) - By BowlingBot & ChatGPT
The bowling alley was alive with excitement on the thirteenth week of Spring 2023 league games. Amidst the sound of clattering pins and cheers from the sidelines, JoAnne Barber stood tall, a determined look etched on her face. Despite facing adversity, she managed to knock down all the other women in the league and come out on top with an impressive high game of 137 and series of 394. It was no easy feat, but JoAnne's perseverance and skill had earned her the coveted title of this week's queen of the lanes. As for James Tott, he also left his mark with an outstanding high game of 231 and series of 620 among bowlers with scrotal bits, making it a night to remember for all. Keep reading for all the juicy details of this epic bowling session! - Time to Go to Sweep (Mar 21st, 2023) - The ninth week of Spring 2023 saw three sets of sweeps, resulting in three teams climbing in the standings while two teams slipped. JoAnne Barber picked up this week's high game (171) and series (478) for the woman, while John Boren earned this week's high game (203) and series (580) for the men. Read on for all the rest of the details! BUT, TAKE NOTICE! Out of laziness, curiosity, and a need to spend my time working on other matters, this week's recap has been (mostly) ghost-written by ChatGPT. So... sit back and enjoy the ride!
- Back From The Dead (Feb 10th, 2023) - The third week of Spring 2023 saw all sorts of technical difficulties as both an unavoidable server update and wifi crash decided to happen on the same night. Two bowlers set a new personal best series, and one rolled new personal high game. JoAnne Barber picked up this week's high game (148) and series (387) for the woman. As for the men, Scott Thompson snagged this week's high game with a 244, and high series was earned by John Boren with a 541. And the Tournament of Champions divisions are now set, ready for one-on-one action to begin next week! Read on for all the rest of the details!
- Prepare for Spring 2023! (Jan 15th, 2023) - Here's what's coming up this season...
- Holy NotContra, Batman! (Nov 28th, 2017) - With the last regular night of bowling in the history books, the remote possibility of the season ending in a three-way tie has faded away. Instead, next week Holy Sandbaggers, Batman! will attempt to protect their cherished first-place position from their only remaining challenger: NotContra.
- Beware Of Doug (Nov 14th, 2017) - There was some pretty freaking amazing rolling tonight. JoAnne Gordon rolled a new personal best series (405) and new high game (157). Michael Smith rolled a new personal best series (464) and tied his personal high game of 192. Ben Spencer broke his previous best game with a 199. Dennis Blake and Aubrey Moren were both on fire. Nick Kinney went insane with a 268.
But nobody came close to what sub / 5th-man Doug Bonney did tonight.
- The Dirty Dozens (Nov 7th, 2017) - Twelve weeks of bowling are now in the books... the season is 3/4 over, and while one team has maintained a two-game lead for three weeks in a row, the top 5 spots in the standings remain too close for us to start predicting a winner just yet.
- Balloween (Oct 31st, 2017) - With tonight being Halloween, almost half the league was bewitched by demons and unable escape from the dark presence of Satan long enough to roll. For those of us who surrounded ourselves with sufficient garlic, silver, and holy water to avoid all of the evil, here is how tonight's games went.
- Swinging Back Around (Oct 18th, 2017) - [insert excerpt]
- Break Out The Scissors! (Oct 10th, 2017) - It's been a while since we've had to cut the scoresheets in half due to a printing error. But it's also been a while since we've had 10 teams and week 8 wasn't the position round. So how did everything shake out after tonight's massive cut-and-paste job?
- Cash Stash Lashes First With Panache (Sep 19th, 2017) - Being Lamewads, we here at Gutteralley can't claim to know what "Mustache Cash Stash" means or what the Google Image Search images that we found mean. But we do know enough to know that MCS = this week's first-place flavor-of-the-week.
- P.B.R.R.I.P. (Aug 29th, 2017) - Tonight our league received the worst news it has heard since the time the bar ran out of Sam Adams: PBR is being replaced with Boulevard Wheat at the bar because no one was drinking PBR. Tell that to the members of JG's Rusty Nuts, who average 5-6 pitchers of it a week. Their Tuesday nights are ruined. To find out how devastating this news was, read on...
- A Flood of Big Games Eclipses the Usual Week 1 Sandbagging (Aug 22nd, 2017) - The Fall 2017 season began with two teams' worth of bowlers absent, but that didn't stop some big games from causing some surprising upsets across the lanes.
- Spring 2017 Recap (May 19th, 2017) - 35 seasons of bowling are now behind us, and while this season may not have set a lot of records, it still has a few firsts and a lot of fun moments. And the surprise come-from-behind championship win by Omaha Hambone marks the first title win in quite some time that didn't come from ne of the long-time dynasties.
- 2016 Is A Wrap (Dec 21st, 2016) - With 34 seasons of bowling now behind us, the Fall 2016 season ended tonight as the 3rd best season in league history in terms of combined league average. Congratulations, everyone, on a great season!
- Same Result, with a Tiny New Twist (Dec 6th, 2016) - Congratulations to Seth and Ashlee Gunderson on the birth this morning of their first child, Spring 2038 women's high game scratch winner Frankee Belle Gunderson! (Oh also also congratulations to Seth and his team for winning the championship yet again...)
- Flat-ner Is Coming (Nov 15th, 2016) - After years over suffering with blurry, miscolored, distorted scoreboards, we have credible information that by next week all of the scoreboards will be replaced with modern LCD flat=panel screens. It remains to be seen if or when this will be followed with high-def signal on the TVs, or working lanes. :)
- No Change (Nov 1st, 2016) - You'd think that with new bowlers continuing to be introduced 11 weeks into the season, that we'd see some changes in the standings. But nope, not this week, every team stayed exactly where they were!
- Humptastically Excited about First (Sep 27th, 2016) - In a season that seems to almost be cursed, for the first time this season, every real team had a full roster despite four bowlers being absent. Not that that mattered in any way for keeping the defending champions from making an early start at running away with the season once again.
- Tournament Takes Off, Ray & Stevie Take It Slow (Sep 14th, 2016) - For the first time in league history, the team rolling against the Blind (Vacancy) Team not only didn't finish early, they were actually the last to finish. Meanwhile a late addition to the league (Ben Spencer) made for a complicated first week for the Tournament of Champions, and next week will be equally complicated when another new bowler -- likely the last new bowler this season -- will join us. And, finally, find out how the Carolina Reaper may come into play this season.
- Sweepage (Sep 6th, 2016) - All four matchups ended in sweeps tonight. Who did the sweeping and who wound up in the dustbin? The answers to these questions and more, in this week's episode of All My Gutterballs.
- A Split-It First? (Aug 23rd, 2016) - For what could very well be the first time ever in their 9-season history, Split It & Hit It is in first place! How did it come to this? Read on to find out...
- Spring 2016 is History (May 24th, 2016) -
- Why Did Pocahontas Leave Her Hairpiece By The Campfire? (May 18th, 2016) - Tonight, on our last real night of bowling, we were joined by several new people that had never rolled in our league all season. It was the strangest thing, though... none of them were ever seen at the same time as Amber, Michelle S., Angela, Bob, Kody, or John Boren. Very! weird!
- Back to Back Clinchings (May 10th, 2016) - Not even the threats of Mexican wrestlers and their drug lord sidekicks could keep Fallop Ian from clinching the championship!
- Split Sisters Split It and Swept It (May 3rd, 2016) - The Split Sisters utilized the power of high squeaky sounds of excitement to eke out their first sweep of the season! How did everyone else do? Read on to find out...
- Tailgating! (Apr 19th, 2016) - When bowling begins with a tailgating session — certainly a first in our league's history and very possibly a first in the history of AMF Pro Bowl — it's an omen that more unexpected things are in store. With new records set and trash talk backfiring, this was definitely an evening of surprises.
- From Everyone Here, to Barely a Soul Left (Apr 12th, 2016) -
- Is the Championship In the Cards? (Mar 15th, 2016) - With the midseason position round coming up next week already, one team already seems destined for the championship. Fallop Ian began the season in first place and, despite a few challengers, has yet to relinquish that spot. Will the position round bring about an end to their streak? We'll find out next week.
- Slow and Steady Wins the Race (Mar 1st, 2016) - Many in our league did not stick around to witness the end of bowling tonight. Nay, not even their children, nor their children's children, would serve as witnesses. But one day, far in the future, the final bowling matchup of the night will come to an end. Will we still be human then, or will we have evolved into a new, more enlightened species?
- Fallop Ian Squeezes Through a Small Lead (Feb 23rd, 2016) - Half of tonight's matchups saw underdogs come out on top, while the other half saw bullies beat up on their prey. Which way did each matchup go? Read on to find out.
- Theory of Relativity Proven (Feb 16th, 2016) - Just days after the announcement that gravity waves were detected, another portion of Einstein's Theory of Relativity was proven tonight when the matchup that involved Holy Sandbaggers, Batman! finished in less time than any other matchup! Granted, they shed half of their mass in order do do it, but it's all part of the famous equation.
- Let's Try This Again... It's Time to Bowl! (Jan 22nd, 2016) -
- Welcome to the Spring 2016 Season! (Jan 11th, 2016) -
- A New King is Crowned (Dec 10th, 2014) - Sixteen weeks ago 32-bowlers on 8 different teams started out all with the same record of zero wins and zero losses, scheduled to do battle with one another at least twice. Tuesday night saw the end results of those slugfests with the men of the brashly named 921+ walking away as the champions of the Fall 2014 season of GutterAlley action.Find out how the Finals went...
- For Whom the Bell Tolls (Dec 2nd, 2014) - The Finals lineup is now set for the Fall 2014 season of GutterAlley, our 30th Finals since we started this crazy league back in late 1999. Look how far we have come: in the very first season, it was a rare occurrence if anyone shot a 200 game. Now, we have people that average that on a weekly basis. This season has also seen more 200+ games than ever before, a testament as to how much we've improved over the past decade and a half.
- Eye on the Prize (Nov 18th, 2014) - GutterAlley action in Week #13 ended with the only two teams that have occupied first place in a tie at 34 wins apiece, potentially setting the stage for a winner-takes-all showdown in the Finals three weeks away. Two other teams, however, remain in striking distance as the Fall 2014 season marches on.
- 9...3...4 (Oct 28th, 2014) - For more than six years, the men of Ain't No Sh!T enjoyed sitting atop one of the most impressive league records of all-time – their 921 single game team output. Tuesday night, however, saw that score moved to 2nd place as four new guys moved to the top of that mountain after some stellar output...and climbing to within two games of the current league leaders. Can they catch them before the Finals? Only time will tell.
- The Midway Point (Oct 14th, 2014) - The position round took place Tuesday night and, with it, six of the team eight teams in the league swapped places. My Three Sons continues to hold tightly onto 1st place with their 5-game league. Can they maintain that throughout the second half? Only time will tell..as other teams are creeping up on them. A mere four games separate 2nd through 6th place. This will be an interesting second half of the Fall 2014 season for sure.
- Sprinting into the Position Round (Oct 7th, 2014) - With the position round coming next week, teams put up their last ditch efforts in an attempt to better their spot within next week's matchup. Some big games and series were rolled as five teams switched spots in the league standings.
- The Crickets Have Stopped (Sep 30th, 2014) - Better late than never, right? The results from Week #6 are now in and they include quite a few surprises...check 'em out.
- Number One Sons (Sep 23rd, 2014) - My Three Sons continue to dominate the league with a clean sweep of the team with the most output in league history, led by Ian Goetz's very first 700+ series. Rob Kaszuba put up his first MVB of the season to bring Dixie Stampede out of the gutter. All in all, Week #4 action saw some big action.
- Holding onto the Reigns (Sep 9th, 2014) - Despite a league record being shattered by the team right on their tail, My Three Sons – last season's reigning champs – refuse to relinquish control of 1st place for a second week in a row. Tentatively, five teams took over a new spot in the standings while we all wait for Split It & Hit It to complete their post-bowling.
- The Second Week Shuffle (Sep 2nd, 2014) - Week #2 watched as nearly every team moved into a new spot in the league standings. Many averages rose while just as many fell from their initial week debuts but none moved as much as Matt Bunyard's this week...wow.Want the details? You know what to do.
- Big Beginnings (Aug 26th, 2014) - Despite the heat outside, the majority of the bowlers in the 30th season of GutterAlley action showed up to kick off the season. Four teams ended their night up 3-1 while the other four went home down 1-3. There's a long road to the Finals in December and we're just getting warmed up.
- Holey Bowley! (Jan 28th, 2014) - The ups and downs of Week #2 proved to live up to expectations as every single bowler in the league (minus those absent or setting their average this week) either raised or lowered their average. Three teams swept, three teams got swept, and two teams battled one another to a standstill at two games apiece – and even resulted in Bill Krejci knocking a big hole in the wall next to Lane 48. Just your typical night of GutterAlley action...
- Fall 2013: And the winner is... (Dec 11th, 2013) - The Fall 2013 Fun Night closed out the season with an awards ceremony announcing the winners of the individual achievements, season favorites, and the newest addition to the GutterAlley Hall of Fame...
- It's All Over (Dec 4th, 2013) - Despite the Finals having been settled and decided last week, there was still one more night to make great things happen...and Chadwick Andrews did 'em all.Over the course of three games Andrews shot his career high game as well as series, secured his second consecutive night to be named Most Valuable Bowler and #1 Power Ranked Bowler, and concluded his evening by winning the Tournament of Champions. Not too bad of a way to finish one's season, eh?
- All Hail the Chumps, er, Champs! (Nov 27th, 2013) - The Finals will simply be a formality next week as the men of Bowltron – Bryan Mohr, Rob Kaszuba, John Boren, and Ryan Doll – wrapped it all up Tuesday night to become the Fall 2013 champions. It'll all be a battle for second place on down the standings as Bowltron will be simply be untouchable.
- Tournament of Champions: Things to Watch Tonight (Nov 26th, 2013) -
- Almost to the Finish Line (Nov 19th, 2013) - There are only two more weeks left in the Fall 2013 season and wins are more crucial than ever for the few teams still in the hun to walk away the champions. Tuesday night's action righted the course for one team while it switched things up for three others as we draw closer and closer to the big matchups of the Finals.Week #14 saw some big series from some familiar faces in a season fraught with below average performances. Will this trend of high scores continue? Only time will tell...
- Things are Getting Tighter (Nov 12th, 2013) - Time is ticking away in the Fall 2013 season and there are now four teams in contention for the title. With the Finals a mere three weeks away, this session of GutterAlley action is still up for grabs amongst half the league. It's now just a question of who wants it the most.Week #13 tightened the distance between those teams with only two teams changing places at all. Check out the recap to see where everyone sits...
- The Help (Nov 5th, 2013) - The Finals are now only four weeks away and the huge lead held by Bowltron over everyone else in recent weeks has all but evaporated with three other team easily within striking distance. The big difference in Week #12's action came from teams collectively firing away and helping to chip away at their opponents. Ready to read this week's recap? You know what to do...
- Chopping Away (Oct 30th, 2013) - The league continues to chop away at the lead that Bowltron has held on the league standings for quite some time, this week narrowing that gap to a mere three games. With the Finals a little over a month away, wins are going to be come more precious going forward. Will anyone catch 'em before it's too late? It's looking that way.Now get in there and see how everyone did...
- The Battle for Second Place? (Oct 15th, 2013) - Bowltron is now a full eight games ahead of the rest of the league now in Week #9 as they continue their seemingly unstoppable march to the Finals.
- 3-1 or 1-3, Take Your Pick (Oct 8th, 2013) - The midway point of the Fall 2013 season has been reached and with it came all four matchups ending at 3-1. The current league leaders have built and impressive gap between themselves and the rest of the league setting up an interesting second half.
- Back and Forth (Sep 17th, 2013) - Six teams moved places in the league standings, there were hardly any 200s, teams continue to bowl like crap but are still handed wins, and Grand Theft Auto 5 came out so this week's recap is pretty damn sparse.
- Gutterfingered! (Sep 11th, 2013) - Week #4 showcased some upsets that were certainly not in line with predictions churned out via ScooterMath™...highlighted with a stunning sweep by the Gutterfingers. Bryan Mohr continues to impress as he learns the nuances of a new bowling ball which he used to earn yet another #1 Power Ranked Bowler performance for a second week in a row. Rounding out the night were the results of the initial week of the Tournament of Champions. Ready to hear how everything went down? Well then, click away...
- Huge Bewbies (Sep 4th, 2013) - The scores from Week #3 across the league were a vast improvement from how the Fall 2013 session got underway...but no one put up team numbers like Bewbie Dance. With one of their teammates coming away with MVB honors, the team made a huge reversal of fortune from their outcome last week. Get in there and read all about it, why dontcha?!?
- Corporate Challenge? Owned. (Jun 15th, 2013) - Corporate Challenge took place on Saturday, June 15th with 11 members of our league showing up to our usual Tuesday haunt to not do battle for MVBs, #1 Power Rankings, or even money...but for medals. Collectively we walked away with ten of them.
- I'll Be Back? (Apr 30th, 2013) - Despite one team opting to post-bowl this week, the season has now come down to a potential Finals showdown between current league leaders Will Strike if Provoked and Dragon Balls. Low scores permeated the entire league, most of which could be blamed on the fact that the bowling alley's bar was deplete of beer. Oh the humanity...
- The 11th Frame – Week 13, Spring 2013 (Apr 26th, 2013) -
- Birthday Beatdown (Mar 5th, 2013) - To celebrate Freda's birthday Tuesday evening, her team wanted to deliver a spanking to opponents and fellow league standing toppers Snakes on a Plane. By the end of the night, the team came through and Freda and crew now stand atop the charts all by themselves. Also around the league, Neil Rieger said goodbye to GutterAlley with a near perfect game while one team opted to post-bowl making it a later-than-usual week to provide the full update.Ready to see how things ended up? Step right in, then...
- Fall 2012: And the winner is... (Dec 18th, 2012) - Mr. 300 himself – David Codding – was named this season's inductee into the GutterAlley Hall of Fame, becoming the 7th bowler to enter as the Fall 2012 season officially came to an end Tuesday night. Prize money was handed out to everyone during the semi-annual Fun Night. The winners for the individual achievements as well as the top picks for the season favorites were announced as the gang enjoyed a round of 9-pin tap and the various traditional trick shot challenges.
- You Can't Top FTOP (Dec 11th, 2012) - It took until the very last roll of their matchup, but a new championship team was crowned on Tuesday night as the Finals went down to conclude the Fall 2012 season of GutterAlley action...Congrats to John Boren, Cory Chorpenning, David Codding, and Ken M. Wilson!
- No Friends of Mine (Dec 4th, 2012) - Week #15 set the stage for the Finals of the 26th season of GutterAlley action. Two teams, separated by a mere half a game, will battle it out for the crown in one of the tightest races to the finish line in league history. Let's get this party started...
- The Antithesis of Perfect (Nov 27th, 2012) - Two weeks until the Finals. Big battles on the lanes. High scores. Low scores. Blowout victories. Extremely narrow losses. And yet, in the end, not a single team managed to move up or down in the league standings. Ready to see how the teams are setting the stage for the last week before the Finals? Let's go.
- Tentative Turkeys (Nov 20th, 2012) - Thanksgiving is just around the corner...and so are the Finals. One team has opted to post bowl this week so the true standings, MVB, #1 Power Ranked bowler, and Tournament of Champions results cannot be completely calculated just yet. Want to see what did transpire, though? You've come to the right place.
- We've Got Big Ballz (Nov 13th, 2012) - Ballz Out proved, once again, that when they are scheduled to bowl whichever team is in first place they are THE team to be feared. Cliff Barendsen torched his opponents and sent them packing after their short lived tenure at the top of the league standings with yet another incredible performance. How did the rest of the league standings shape up? Let's get onto that write-up, shall we?
- The Dark Knight Rises (Nov 7th, 2012) - For the third time this season, another team has taken over the top spot on the league standings. The Pocket Pounders have been cutting into the lead for weeks now and finally reached the zenith. Can they hold on for five more weeks through the Finals? Only time will tell...
- The Walking Ahead (Oct 30th, 2012) - On Devil's Night, mischief took place across the lanes as Week #10 made its way into the record books. Thirteen people raised their averages while the league standings continue to tighten up with the possibility of other teams overtaking the coveted first place spot. Ready to find out how it all went down? Let's go trick or treating, then.
- Taking It On the Chin (Oct 23rd, 2012) - Just about every underdog team in tonight's matchups made sure to make their opponents take it on the chin as the league standings tightened up in the second half of the Fall 2012 season. Despite only three teams changing places, leads over other teams have been significantly diminished as only ten games separate all eight teams in the league. With 28 games still left to win, it's honestly anyone's title to take. Will your favorite team make the most of these next seven weeks?
- Position Round Repositionings (Oct 16th, 2012) - With only two teams staying put, every other team found itself in a new spot on the league standings after the position round. Huge games and series were recorded across the board in what was probably the highest scoring midway point of any season in league history. Even Hall of Famer Scott "Scooter J" Murdock shot his first 600+ series. What in the hell are they putting in the beer on Tuesday nights?!?Ready to get the full recap? You know what to do.
- Missed it by THAT Much... (Oct 9th, 2012) - Last week, David Codding rolled a perfect game. This week, Carl Goetz fell one pin shy of joining Codding in perfection after rolling eleven strikes in a row but ending with a 299. Other bowlers around the league also had big games and huge series. What's going on with these guys...and can they share it with the rest of us?!?See that pin? Carl HATES that pin.Dive into this week's writeup...
- Absolute Perfection (Oct 2nd, 2012) - One. Two. Three. Four. Five. Six. Seven. Eight. Nine. Ten. Eleven. Twelve. Twelve strikes in a row. David Codding becomes the first person to roll a perfect game on league night. It doesn't get much better than that, folks. Actually, it cannot.
- Rise of the Mayans (Sep 25th, 2012) - Week #5 saw some domination as three of the four matchups ended in opponents getting swept. Only one matchup was a real roller coaster thanks to an MVB performance from Teresa Deterding that ended in a 2-2 split. Five of the eight teams changed places in the league standings and two bowlers shot lights out to both surpass the highest series thrown this season so far. Hop on into this week's writeup to get the lowdown...
- Kiernan Takes Over the Crown (Sep 18th, 2012) - When you have eight teams on a roster, you don't expect 75% of them to swap places on a single Tuesday. Well, Week #4 was that week. The highlight of the night, however, was Steve Kiernan throwing a 259 in Game #3 to take over the highest game thrown all season.
- The Cream Rises (Sep 4th, 2012) - Highly volatile Week #2 reshuffled the league standings, putting six of the eight teams in a new spot. Two teams have already separated themselves from everyone else after amassing 7-1 records while four teams (yes, FOUR TEAMS!) share a record of 3-5. This season should prove to be a fun ride, as usual. Ready to see how everyone did? Of course you are...
- Three is a Magic Number (Aug 29th, 2012) - The new season. Eight teams. 32 bowlers. Initial week results? 3-1 for four teams, 1-3 for the others. Nothing like consistency to get things started, eh?The highlight of the night, though, was seeing Rob Kaszuba receiving his surprise replacement bowling ball after a mishap over the summer that destroyed his regular ball. Thanks to everyone who pitched in on the gift!
- Welcome to the Fall 2012 Season! (Aug 22nd, 2012) - The Fall 2012 session of the VML Bowling League kicks off on Tuesday, August 28th. We're returning to 4-man teams vying for the championship title over the course of 16 nights on the lanes. Before we get started, we wanted to welcome our newest recruits and explain what they can expect in the league...
- Spring 2012: And the winner is... (May 8th, 2012) - The 25th season of the GutterAlley bowling league came to a close and the list of winners from the season favorites to individual achievements were announced...as well as Bob Brunker, the latest inductee into the Hall of Fame.
