A listing (from most current to furthest back) of any write-up posts in which Chris has been mentioned:
- Dustin the Win(d) (Nov 12th, 2024) - It seems only fitting that about midway through the evening "Dust In the Wind" by Kansas played on the overhead sound system, considering that by the time the dust all settled Dustin Schmeltz landed this week's high series, swept all the weekly awards, and won his Tournament division too. Meanwhile AJ Hofmann left jaws and balls dropping with his 235 high game as two pairs of teams swapped places in the standings. Let's dive into the pulse-pounding action!
- Week 11 RoboRecap (Nov 5th, 2024) - A sparsely-attended eleventh week of Fall 2024 saw one team climb in the standings, while two teams slipped. One bowler set a new personal best series. Seth Gunderson snagged this week's high game with a 212, and high series was earned by Ben Spencer with a 577. Scooter is too depressed and horrified to do a proper writeup this week, and if he did it would just be a rehash of the November 9, 2016 recap. So read on here for the current stats, then go read that one to see some cute pictures to get your mind off current events.
- Dol-Fin-Tastic! (Sep 24th, 2024) - The fifth week of Fall 2024 was filled with triumphs and drama as two teams ascended the standings, while three others faced tough setbacks. JoAnne Barber soared to the top for the woman with the week's high game of 124 and an impressive 363 series, while AJ Hofmann reigned supreme for the men, crushing a 234 high game and a stunning 607 series. But the biggest story may just be what unfolded on lanes 5 & 6. Read on for the full scoop, and also check out your bingo results!
- Debatably Good Bowling (Sep 10th, 2024) - The third week of Fall 2024 rolled in with anticipation, as one team soared to new heights and another tumbled down the standings. JoAnne Barber made waves with this week’s high game (126) and series (347) for the woman, while Matthew Taylor took center stage for the men with a high game (238) and series (614). Meanwhile, the Tournament of Champions divisions are locked and loaded, ready to bring head-to-head showdowns next week! Let’s dive into the play-by-play drama of this week's matchups.
- Fall 2024 Bowling Preview! (Aug 13th, 2024) - Welcome to the Fall 2024 bowling season! We start bowling 2 weeks from tonight, on August 27, same location and same time as usual.
There is still time to submit roster changes, but for the time being all six teams seem to be the same as last time with two exceptions: Ray Scott is sitting this season out, and Nick Kinney is replacing Michael Gordon. Please get team names and any other roster changes to us by this weekend, and if anyone else wants to bowl who did not bowl last season, let Scoot or AJ know ASAP so we can find you a spot! (Reminder: Scoot is out of town most of next week so please try to finalize things by this weekend.)
- Squid Row Remains Prime Real Estate (Apr 2nd, 2024) - In the alleys of the eleventh week of Spring 2024, strikes were flying, spares were spared, and emotions were high as bowling fever gripped the lanes! JoAnne Barber dazzled with her remarkable 147 high game and a solid 397 series, continuing her insanely long streak of being the league's top female bowler. Meanwhile, Matthew Taylor flexed his bowling muscles with an impressive 224 high game and a whopping 606 series, leaving the other dangly-bits-possessing league members in awe.
- The Cheese Stick Curse (Feb 27th, 2024) - In the thrilling sixth week of our bowling league, the lanes buzzed with excitement as teams clashed, jockeying for position in the standings. It was a showcase of skill and determination, with standout performances leaving spectators on the edge of their seats. The spotlight shone brightly on JoAnne Barber and Seth Gunderson, who dazzled with their exceptional bowling prowess. JoAnne claimed the title of this week's queen of the lanes, securing the high game (143) and series (350) for the woman, while Seth asserted his dominance with a stellar high game (238) and series (562) for the men, solidifying his status as a force to be reckoned with.
- Who Ordered the Calamari? (Jan 30th, 2024) - The second week of Spring 2024 saw two teams climb in the standings, while three teams slipped. In a week completely bereft of women to showcase, Aaron Barber earned this week's high game (204) and series (598). And while it's way too early for anyone to be staking claims, a new league leader emerged with a lightly fried breaded coating served up with roasted peppers and a bit of butter. Read on for all the rest of the details!
- Fall 2023 Recap (Jan 20th, 2024) - Here is your Fall 2023 Recap, where you can find out who won all the individual awards plus lots more! Our next season will begin on January 23, 2024!
- Induction Junction, What's Your Function? (Nov 28th, 2023) - The fourteenth week of the Fall 2023 bowling league unfolded with a symphony of strikes & spares, a surprise ceremony, and a bit of shakeup in the standings. As the pins fell and the competition intensified, the scene was set for a rollercoaster of emotions on the lanes. As usual JoAnne Barber picked up this week's high game (188) and series (476) for the women (though the scores themselves were quite a bit higher than the usual), while Nick Kinney earned this week's high game (277) and series (674) for the men.
- A Dark, Gloomy Night in the Gutter (Nov 7th, 2023) - The eleventh week of Fall 2023, the first bowling session after the time change, was just another reminder of how early it gets dark outside. It left me feeling as gloomy as the skies. I guess some teams climbed and others slipped, but who really cares when it's this dark and depressing outside?
JoAnne Barber rolled her usual high game (157) and series (398) for the woman, which is nice, I guess. For the men, Matthew Taylor snagged a high game with a 208, and Nick Kinney got the high series with a 570. Yippee.
Now, let's delve into the exciting world of bowling on these gloomy lanes, shall we?
- Night of the Living Balls (Oct 31st, 2023) - In the eerie, dimly lit bowling alley, the tenth week of Fall 2023 unfolded like a Halloween horror story. The standings remained frozen, as if cursed by some malevolent force, refusing to budge from their haunted positions.
JoAnne Barber, a cursed mummy whose name is whispered in fearful tones, emerged from the shadows to claim the witches' high game (114) and series (331) for the week. But it was Undead Ben Spencer, a mysterious figure with a sinister aura, who clawed his way to the warlocks' high game (205) and series (543), as if under a dark spell. Their accomplishments, while impressive, were shrouded in an unsettling air.
- It was the Worst of Times, it was the Worst of Times. (Oct 24th, 2023) - Let's face it, last night sucked. I don't know if it was the weather, geopolitical concerns, not enough relaxing pharmaceuticals partaken of before crossing the state line, or Ron putting the oil machine on the "Torture Pattern" setting as a joke, but it has been years since we've seen such an off night all across the board.
- Is The Dolphin Show Over? (Oct 10th, 2023) - As the pins fell and the lanes lit up in Week 7, there were surprises aplenty. JoAnne Barber, with her impeccable skill and precision, dominated the scene, achieving the week's high game (155) and series (413) for the women, leaving all of the league's female bowlers in awe. Meanwhile, Matthew Taylor showcased his undeniable prowess, claiming this week's high game (216) and series (585) title for the men, further fueling the competitive spirit of the night.
- Cox: "Suckers!" (Sep 19th, 2023) - The fourth week of Fall 2023 brought thunderous applause and roaring excitement to the bowling lanes, with strikes and spares painting the alley in vibrant hues of victory and camaraderie. While some teams soared to new heights, others grappled with the challenge of maintaining their positions. It was a night of personal bests, thrilling showdowns, and unforgettable moments.
In the realm of fierce competition, JoAnne Barber emerged as the undisputed queen of the evening, leaving everyone in awe with her remarkable performance. With grace and precision, she defied all odds and claimed the crown for the highest game (133) and series (365) among the women bowlers. It wasn't just a victory; it was a masterclass in bowling finesse that left spectators in awe. And let's not forget the countless women JoAnne had to out-bowl to secure her title—a true testament to her prowess!
Speaking of remarkable achievements, Seth Gunderson proved that the lanes were his canvas, and he was the artist creating a masterpiece. With a colossal high game of 242 and an astonishing series of 562, Seth was a force to be reckoned with among the bowlers with 5 appendages. His performance was nothing short of a bowling symphony, leaving the pins trembling in his wake.
As the lanes sizzled with action, the stage was set for the Tournament of Champions, a thrilling extravaganza that promises 13 weeks of one-on-one bowling battles. It's a journey that promises to test the mettle of every bowler and leave the spectators (aka Kenny, Joe, Nick, and Ron) on the edge of their seats.
