A listing (from most current to furthest back) of any write-up posts in which Mark has been mentioned:
  • Another Season, Another Upset (Dec 5th, 2017) - For the second season in a row, a second place team made a shocking comeback at the last possible moment to steal the championship from the expected winner. And, the common element in both comebacks is Aaron Barber. Is he a good luck charm that teams will fight to recruit in the off-season?

  • Balloween (Oct 31st, 2017) - With tonight being Halloween, almost half the league was bewitched by demons and unable escape from the dark presence of Satan long enough to roll. For those of us who surrounded ourselves with sufficient garlic, silver, and holy water to avoid all of the evil, here is how tonight's games went.

  • Who's On First? (Sep 27th, 2017) - While Mustache Cash Stash technically remains in first place by total pins, there are three teams tied for first place and a total of 5 teams that are within a game of first place. To have so many teams so close together at the top of the standings by week 6 is absolutely unprecedented in the history of our league. No, that's not hyperbole, I went through the week 6 standings of every past season and there has never been such a massive tie before by this point in the season.

  • Thankful For a More Interesting Championship (Nov 22nd, 2016) - In what was a very short night for everybody except the poor schmoes on the first pair of lanes, things suddenly have become potentially very interesting as we close in on the Championship round. Suddenly the team that has been running away with first place all season is finding themselves needing to fight for it. How did this happen?

  • Flat-ner Is Coming (Nov 15th, 2016) - After years over suffering with blurry, miscolored, distorted scoreboards, we have credible information that by next week all of the scoreboards will be replaced with modern LCD flat=panel screens. It remains to be seen if or when this will be followed with high-def signal on the TVs, or working lanes. :)

  • A Fractured League Enters Midseason (Oct 4th, 2016) - Our decimated league is now approaching the position round, and yet another injury takes yet another bowler out for the the season. Let's al wish the best for both Mark DeVoe and Kody Karnes on their individual roads to recovery! Meanwhile, nobody moved in the standings this week. Which only makes sense, considering how few league members can even walk.

  • Humptastically Excited about First (Sep 27th, 2016) - In a season that seems to almost be cursed, for the first time this season, every real team had a full roster despite four bowlers being absent. Not that that mattered in any way for keeping the defending champions from making an early start at running away with the season once again.

  • Spring 2016 is History (May 24th, 2016) -

  • From Everyone Here, to Barely a Soul Left (Apr 12th, 2016) -

  • Almost No Change (Mar 8th, 2016) - Despite some major upsets tonight, the only change in the standings was a slight fliop between Split It and Bowlgasmic.

  • Slow and Steady Wins the Race (Mar 1st, 2016) - Many in our league did not stick around to witness the end of bowling tonight. Nay, not even their children, nor their children's children, would serve as witnesses. But one day, far in the future, the final bowling matchup of the night will come to an end. Will we still be human then, or will we have evolved into a new, more enlightened species?

  • Theory of Relativity Proven (Feb 16th, 2016) - Just days after the announcement that gravity waves were detected, another portion of Einstein's Theory of Relativity was proven tonight when the matchup that involved Holy Sandbaggers, Batman! finished in less time than any other matchup! Granted, they shed half of their mass in order do do it, but it's all part of the famous equation.

  • Let's Bowl! (Feb 16th, 2016) -

  • Falling Apart at the Seams (Dec 8th, 2015) - For reasons unknown, that definitely had nothing to do with the first place team getting swept, the lanes started falling apart tonight! As did any chance of seeing any of 2nd thru 6th place get locked up early.

  • Number One Sons (Sep 23rd, 2014) - My Three Sons continue to dominate the league with a clean sweep of the team with the most output in league history, led by Ian Goetz's very first 700+ series. Rob Kaszuba put up his first MVB of the season to bring Dixie Stampede out of the gutter. All in all, Week #4 action saw some big action.

  • Best. Series. Ever. (May 6th, 2014) - While the big story of the night should be that Pinterest wrapped up the Spring 2014 championship, their feat was overshadowed by the incredible output from Kody Karnes and his 773 series – the highest output by a bowler over the course of our 29 seasons. The previous record of Don Glasscock's 770 series has stood since the Spring 2008 season. Congratulations to Jonathan Vigliaturo, Andy McLeod, Ian Goetz, and Seth Gunderson on their title but also to Kody Karnes for rolling one HELL of a series.

  • Zeroing in on the Target (Apr 22nd, 2014) - With their grasp on the Spring '14 title becoming looser and looser, Pinterest suffered yet another set back in Week #13 action as their lead over the rest of the league – once +8 – has been reduced to only a game and a half with two weeks left in the regular season. The Finals may end up being a winner takes all affair if things continue on their current trajectory. Step inside and read how it all happened in this week's recap...

  • Spring 2013: And the winner is... (May 22nd, 2013) - The Spring 2013 Fun Night closed out the season with an awards ceremony announcing the winners of the individual achievements, season favorites, and the newest addition to the GutterAlley Hall of Fame...

  • Back in the Saddle Again (May 14th, 2013) - The Spring 2013 season came to an ending with Will Strike if Provoked sitting atop the league standings a full five games ahead of the rest of the competition after a survival of the fittest Finals showdown. Congratulations to returning league champions Dennis "Pops" Laube, Freda Schroeder, Phil Schroeder, and Aubrey Moren!

  • The Stage is All Set (May 7th, 2013) - The stage is all set for a Finals week showdown between the lone two contenders – Will Strike if Provoked and Dragon Balls. The winners of the Spring 2013 season will be crowned in a do-or-die matchup next week between these two teams with the Dragon Balls having absolutely no room for error. Four wins and the crown is theirs...one loss, and Will Strike if Provoked walks off with the title. It's gonna be a fun one...but, for now, let's see how everyone else did.

  • I'll Be Back? (Apr 30th, 2013) - Despite one team opting to post-bowl this week, the season has now come down to a potential Finals showdown between current league leaders Will Strike if Provoked and Dragon Balls. Low scores permeated the entire league, most of which could be blamed on the fact that the bowling alley's bar was deplete of beer. Oh the humanity...

  • Breaking Away? (Apr 23rd, 2013) - The Finals are three weeks away and one team has started to separate themselves from the rest of the pack with their eye on the title. While various scenarios are still possible, momentum seems to be on the side of the former championship team that last won it all just last Spring. Can they be stopped or are they simply breaking away? Also this week – a slumping vet turns his season around and earns #1 Power Ranked Bowler honors in the process, a quiet bowler puts on the first MVB performance of her career, and the league shatters the all-time record for most 200+ games in a single season. What a week!

  • Three Up, Two Down (Apr 16th, 2013) - With huge outputs across the league all season from the same handful of bowlers, the biggest performances during Week #12 came from unlikely sources. This week's Most Valuable Bowler nearly put up the best series of her career to keep her team tied with the best record in the league while this week's #1 Power Ranked Bowler put on a clinic against the league's former 1st place team, sending them down in the standings. Ready to find out who all did what? Read on...

  • The 11th Frame – Week 11, Spring 2013 (Apr 12th, 2013) -

  • All Knotted Up (Apr 9th, 2013) - After all was said and done this week in GutterAlley action, three teams found themselves sharing the best record in the league at 27-17. The Finals are just a little over a month away and these teams have at least one matchup against one another coming up which will certainly make for a fun finish.Ready to find out how your favorite team did? Let's go, then...

  • Challenge Accepted (Apr 2nd, 2013) - Anyone not casting their vote at the end of this season for Kody Karnes to be named Rookie of the Season is absolutely kidding themselves. Putting together three consecutive 200+ games Tuesday night, Karnes rolled this season's fourth 700+ series – and the league's 21st – and raised his average to an even 200. Not too bad for a debut bowler. Curious how everyone else fared? Good...

  • He’s Baaaaaaaaaaaack! (Mar 26th, 2013) - What do you get when you cross Steve Kiernan and a 2+ month absence from the bowling league? Why, a 700+ series...that's what! The impressive output from Steve keeps the team he subbed for firmly in first place while only one team in the league managed to find themselves upward bound in the first week of GutterAlley action after last week's position round. Ready to see how the rest of the league stacked up? Hop to it, then...

  • Arkansas Ass Kickin' (Mar 19th, 2013) - Almost not showing this week, Bill Krejci – the anchor of the appropriately named Murder, He Wrote – arrived fashionably late to deliver an incredible performance in this season's position round to propel his team to a mere half-game out of first place. A new team took over the top spot in the league standings, Mark DeVoe was this week's Most Valuable Bowler, and the league as a whole is more than half way to breaking a long-standing record. Get your GutterAlley on, y'all...

  • The More Things Change... (Mar 13th, 2013) - The league is almost officially half over now that everyone has done battle with one another. The position round comes our way next week but this week's matchup results brought something we haven't seen in quite some time – the top five spots in the league standings are separated by a mere two games. Ready to find out how this all went down? Check it out.

  • One Pin Ken (Feb 20th, 2013) - The record for the highest series ever thrown in GutterAlley's history has stood since Week 6 of the Spring 2008 session, when Don Glasscock put up a 770 series. While it still stands as the best, one lousy pin kept Ken M. Wilson from not only throwing a perfect game but also from creating a score that would have bested Don's series. Week #5 is now history...do you know where your favorite team stands?

  • The 11th Frame: Week 4, Spring 2013 (Feb 17th, 2013) -

  • Up, Up, and Away (Feb 12th, 2013) - Superman and Wonder Woman were in the building Tuesday night, on multiple lanes, as the league saw some huge output across the board. An astounding eighteen games of 200+ were thrown in what is shaping up to be one of the highest output seasons in league history...nine by the chumps pictured here.

  • Three is a Magic Number (Aug 29th, 2012) - The new season. Eight teams. 32 bowlers. Initial week results? 3-1 for four teams, 1-3 for the others. Nothing like consistency to get things started, eh?The highlight of the night, though, was seeing Rob Kaszuba receiving his surprise replacement bowling ball after a mishap over the summer that destroyed his regular ball. Thanks to everyone who pitched in on the gift!

  • Welcome to the Fall 2012 Season! (Aug 22nd, 2012) - The Fall 2012 session of the VML Bowling League kicks off on Tuesday, August 28th. We're returning to 4-man teams vying for the championship title over the course of 16 nights on the lanes. Before we get started, we wanted to welcome our newest recruits and explain what they can expect in the league...
