Ryan Doll is a nominee for induction into the GutterAlley Hall of Fame during the Fall 2013 season. Way back in the Fall 2005 season, a fresh faced kid with a barrel chest showed up to roll as a sub on the worst team in league history. The following season he joined the league full time and earned both Rookie of the Season honors as well as #1 Cumulative Power Ranked bowler in the same season, the first person to do so. Since then, Ryan Doll has returned to roll a total of 15 seasons in the league while racking up quite an incredible track record along the way.Despite never winning a title to date, Doll has achieved great success in just about every other area of league play both on and off the lanes. He's currently ranked as the 8th best bowler in league history with the 13th highest lifetime average. Five times he's been the MVB as well as been named the #1 Power Ranked bowler 12 times. Doll's been no stranger to the Season Favorites at the end of each season, either. He's been chosen the Captain of the Season three times, earned the Carl Goetz Defensive Bowler once, as well as the People's Choice for Most Valuable Bowler twice. Four times, he's been the Actual Most Valuable Bowler of the league – Fall 2009, Spring 2010, Fall 2011, and Spring 2012 – which is more than any other bowler, with the exception of one, in GutterAlley history. When it comes to the Top 25 lists, Ryan's name is a common occurrence. As of this writing, he is the #5 most improved bowler in our 28 seasons. Doll has rolled the 6th highest game in league history (278), the 13th highest series (707), is ranked 3rd for the most 200+ games, 4th for the most 600+ series, 5th for the most total pins in a single season, and is the 7th most prolific bowler of all time.A very vocal and tough team captain while on the lanes, Doll has provided immense value off the lanes as well. Fielding a variety of teams in the past, our estimates rank him at being in the top five people to recruit the most people into the league – including several that are currently eligible for the Hall of Fame. Here are a few comments about Doll from those that nominated him:
Doll is a powerhouse, pure and simple. He came into the league with the goal of just having fun but, over the years, has evolved into a passionate competitor capable of turning any team into an instant contender. He, along with Codding and Cory, represents the best of the league's recruits during the mid-2000s. And even though he's yet to win a championship, his tenacity and constant improvement makes it inevitable that he'll do it someday...just as I am confident he'll make it into the Hall of Fame. At least I can get behind him on the Hall of Fame. Winning a championship on my watch, though, is a whole other matter.A virtual main-stay of VML bowling, Ryan Doll is usually in the thick of top bowlers and best teams – not bad company to be in. When it comes to championships, "always the bridesmaid, never the bride" might be true. But where Doll lacks in titles, he flourishes in competitive spirit, a heavyweight average and the desire to win – even when it requires him to bowl left-handed after having surgery. Doll may not have a title, but his bowling nearly always affects the outcome of the league. And,it's only a matter of time before Ryan collects his first of many championships. Based on bowling scores alone, Doll is a future league Hall of Famer, for sure.I propose the following...Ryan "Tough Guy" Doll Award = I don't know about everybody else, but I was impressed when Ryan came back from shoulder surgery and bowled a pretty-dang-good season left-handed; Ryan "Captain Clutch" Doll Award = I couldn't tell you the amount of times Ryan has saved my ass in the tenth with his amazing clutch skills. Well I'm sure you actually could figure that out, but believe me … It's a lot!; Ryan "Do as I say, not as I do" Doll Leadership Award = All kidding aside, Doll is a great leader on the alley, in the work place and the community. He's an all-around great guy who will help you do your best; Ryan "I coulda been a contender" Doll Award = Alright, kind of a cheap shot but for a guy who has come so close to taking it all he still has a great attitude and brings his best game each and every week.
The GutterAlley Hall of Fame Screening Committee is proud to put Ryan up for enshrinement.
