Fall 2024 Bowling Preview!

Posted by ScooterJ August 13, 2024 Fall 2024

Welcome to the Fall 2024 bowling season! We start bowling 2 weeks from tonight, on August 27, same location and same time as usual.

There is still time to submit roster changes, but for the time being all six teams seem to be the same as last time with two exceptions: Ray Scott is sitting this season out, and Nick Kinney is replacing Michael Gordon. Please get team names and any other roster changes to us by this weekend, and if anyone else wants to bowl who did not bowl last season, let Scoot or AJ know ASAP so we can find you a spot! (Reminder: Scoot is out of town most of next week so please try to finalize things by this weekend.)

As usual, fees are $250 per person if paid throughout the season, or $210 if paid in advance. For those of you on rotating teams of 5 — what we need from you is the equivalent payment of four bowlers since only 4 of you can bowl at a time. So anywhere from $840 at the low end if the entire team pre-pays, to $1000 at the high end if the entire team spreads out payments. It is the responsibility of the 5-person teams to determine how much each person chips in and what share of prize money each gets at the end of the season. (The easiest solution for a 5-person team is for each member to pay $200 throughout the season or $168 in advance.) Send your payments via Venmo to @scooterjm and if you are asked to enter the last 4 digits of a telephone number, use 4466. Or scan the QR code shown here.

Here is a quick rundown of this season's teams (as they stand so far):

Team 1 - Squid Row: Chris Windham, Ben Spencer, Dennis Walling, Matthew Taylor.

Team 2 - Sun Dolphins: Scott Thompson, JC Cox, Clayton Burrow, and Ryan Sisco.

Team 3 - ??: Jim Koger, Nathan Burrows, Scott Murdock, and AJ Hofmann.

Team 4 - ??: Buck Nasty, Seth Gunderson, Nick Kinney, and Aaron Barber.

Team 5 - ??: Brett Affolter, Carl Mueller, Brian Schaben, Nicholas Knight, and Kent Harms as a rotating team of 5.

Team 6 - ??: JoAnne Barber, Doug Lenz, Chris Lenz (unless still injured?), and Jeremy Varnell.

Still waiting to hear the status of: Dustin Schmeltz

Things to look forward to this season:

  • Ben Spencer will quickly be knocking down his 100,000th league career pin. Barring any absences or sandbagging, this is likely to happen in week 2, game 2, somewhere between frames 3 & 7.

  • It may be close, but Aaron Barber could pass 250 league career 200+ games this season, and Matthew Taylor should cruise past the 200 mark around the latter half of November.

  • Barring any late roster changes, JoAnne Barber will continue to dominate all female prize categories.

  • On the negative side of things, due to ScooterVacations™ the big TV scoreboards will not be available in week 7 (Oct 8 ) or week 14 (Nov 26).

We'll go ahead and do Bingo again this season, with a few tile changes currently in the works.

We hope you all have a great time this season, even if you finish in last place! Sun Dolphins? Let's try to make that be not you this time!
