“December 7, 2021. A Championship which will live… in infamy”

Posted by ScooterJ December 7, 2021 Fall 2021, Week 14 View Score Sheets

After failing to clinch the championship last week, the guys of Going Going Bald got around to it tonight and can now rest easy during our final two weeks. More on them in a minute. This week also saw one team climb in the standings, while two teams slipped. One bowler set a new personal best series, and one rolled new personal high game. JoAnne Barber picked up this week's high game (123) and series (358) for the women, while James Tott earned this week's high game (255) and series (631) for the men. Read on for all the rest of the details!

First up, on lanes 1 & 2: With Kenny Fan Club forfeiting to see a basketball game, Would You Rather... decided they would rather roll better than they have been doing recently in order to rack up some badly needed wins. AJ Hofmann with his better-than-normal 511 series took the lead among Would You (with kudos to Most Valuable Bowler Scott Murdock) as they swept the competition. Kenny Fan Club drops 1 spot in the standings to 5th place, while Would You remains in 3rd.

On lanes 3 & 4: We find a pairing of virtually equal strengths yet half, as only two members of The Heavy Pins rolled against just two members Bowlie Guacamole. Topped by Luke Melton with his above-average 420 series, Heavy P landed a clean sweep over Guac. Nathan Burrows with his slightly-off 343 series guided Guac despite his team getting swept. The Heavy Pins leap 2 spots in the standings to 4th place, while Guac sinks 1 spot to 6th.

Finally, down on lanes 5 & 6: Going Going Bald needed only one win to clinch the championship early, while Shephus Cripes was going to do everything in their power to stop that from happening. And for a while it looked like the power of Cripes compelled them, as Shephus routed Baldness the first two games. But then Going Bald sprung the trap in game 3 and crucified Shephus in game 3 to secure the Fall 2021 Championship. This makes the first championship for Chris Windham, the second for Ben Spencer, and the fourth for Dennis Walling and Matthew Taylor. Dennis Walling led Baldness with his above-average 573 series, while #1 Power Ranked and #1 Head-to-Head James Tott and his wonderful 631 series performed Cripes-like miracles for his team.

Bowlers who stumbled into The 200 Club include: AJ Hofmann (207), Ben Spencer (213), Carl Goetz (202,204), Chris Windham (209), Dennis Walling (200,215), James Tott (255), Jonathan Vigliaturo (204), Matthew Taylor (202), and Nick Kinney (215)

A new personal high game was set tonight by James Tott (255, previous best 246). In addition, a new personal best series was rolled by James Tott (631, previous best 617).

Evidently working on bowling writeups is tantamount to being neglectful to Scoot's dogs.

In this week's Tournament of Champions brackets: Ben Spencer topped Division 1, while James Tott staked a claim for the Iron Throne in Division 2. JoAnne Barber creamed Division 3, and nobody claimed victory in Division 4 (though Brandon Martinez came closest). In terms of overall points: Carl Goetz leads Division 1; James Tott dominates Division 2; Kent Harms runs the show in Division 3; and Brandon Martinez governs Division 4.

In TWO weeks: On December 21, our final session of the season, St. John's will be treating us to a complimentary dinner buffet so come hungry! Then, after bowling, please plan to stay a little bit longer so we can announce awards and pass out prize money. Every team will be going home with some extra cash, and some of you will be going home with quite a bit more! :)

NEXT WEEK:

  • First, on lanes 1&2, 6th-place Bowlie Guacamole (hcp 160) will hang out with 1st-place Going Going Bald. Guac is expected to maintain their current strength as they lose the series but avoid getting swept; while Baldness are forecast to drop their average a bit even as they enjoy their victories.
  • Moving to lanes 3&4, 2nd-place Shephus Cripes will meet with 3rd-place Would You Rather... (hcp 103). Shephus might maintain their current strength as they sweep the series; while Would You ought to drop their average a bit while they endure a rough night.
  • Finally, on lanes 5&6, 4th-place The Heavy Pins (hcp 21) will socialize with 5th-place Kenny Fan Club. Heavy P is predicted to roll decently and win the series; while Kenny is anticipated to hold steady as they avoid getting swept.

*(Remember, the predicted results above are based on mathematical extrapolations and can be changed by all sorts of factors. If you don't like how your team's results are predicted, you and your teammates have the power to prove the math wrong!)

REMINDER: Next week is the bowling fee payment deadline! All bowling fees for the season must be paid in full next Tuesday unless other arrangements are made personally with AJ or Scott.

  FROM THE GUTTER (GUTTER QUOTE)
"Seriously, Scoot! How many times did we go over this plan, for you to still screw it up so badly? You were supposed to steal ALL FOUR of their keychains, and you were supposed to do it BEFORE they could come to bowl tonight!"

Carl, to Scoot, after Scoot botched the plan and only swiped Dennis Walling's keys and didn't do so until after the championship was clinched, leaving Dennis stranded alone and scared in a darkened bowling alley.
