The Spring 2019 season draws to a close, with CICK Ass officially earning this season's championship title (two weeks ago, yawn). But we aren't quite finished yet -- next week we will meet at our usual time to name all the award winners and hand out prize money (in the meeting room on the Finnegan's side, through the back of the snack bar), followed by 9-pin-tap fun night.
The final week saw one team climb in the standings, while one team slipped. Monica Hufford picked up this week's high game (186) and series (513) for the women, while Matthew Taylor earned this week's high game (237) and series (628) for the men. And down on lanes 11 & 12, it also saw a clusterfrack. Read on for all the details!
But before we get on with all the details, Please remember to vote for your season favorites by NOON Monday!
First up, on lanes 1 & 2: De facto champions CICK Ass waged a heated competition against Pin Is King. In spite of the leadership of Carl Goetz with his 580 series, CICK Ass ended its seasn being swept by PinIs Kings. Matthew Taylor with his better-than-normal 628 series took charge of the Kings as they swept the competition. CICK Ass ends in (of course) 1st place, while PinIs Kings already had 2nd place locked as well.
On lanes 3 & 4: BDE consumated the season with We Don't Give a Split. Headlined by Jeremy Cline with his below-average 513 series, BDE split the series with Split Not Given. Moving on to the challengers, Aubrey Moren with his 541 series mastered Split as they matched their opponent in wins. BDE ends in 3rd place, while Split Not Given ends up with 4th.
On lanes 5 & 6: Scoot's Raging Bone Spur repeated their same matchup as last week against Open Frames R Us, except with opposite results this time. Featuring #1 Head-to-Head Sean Miller and his above-average 526 series, Bone Spurs collected 3 wins against Open Frames. In the midst of this, Monica Hufford with her better-than-normal 513 series oversaw Open Frames despite her team notching only a single win. Scoot's Raging Bone Spur finish in 5th place, while Open Frames wind up in 6th.
On lanes 7 & 8: Extreme Outliers strategy against The Pin Is Mightier eventually came down to "ok, let's win game 3 by 117 and hope Bone Spurs lose game 3 so we can pass them". Despite being led by Ben Spencer with his 509 series (and with help from ToC Champion Nicole Yancy ), Outliers accomplished only 1 win against Mightiers. Over on the other side, ToC Runner-Up Luke Melton with his better-than-normal 459 series dominated Mightiers (along with kudos to #1 Power-Ranked and Most Valuable Bowler Michael Whiles) as his team took the match with 3 wins. Extreme Outliers ultimately land in 7th place, while Mightiers come out in 8th.
On lanes 9 & 10: In a rather lopsided matchup, #MGAGA alternated splits with Bowl Movements. Highlighting the skills of Nick Kinney with his 519 series, Hashtags locked up a clean sweep over Movements. On the adjacent lane, Conor Clarke with his slightly-off 385 series drew the spotlight of Movements despite his team getting swept. #MGAGA end the season in 9th place, while Movements sink 1 spot to settle for 11th.
Finally, down on lanes 11 & 12: JoAnne's Dirty PJs repeated last week's matchup against Holy Forkin Shirt Balls in a complete train wreck of clerical errors that has required revisionist history to have to be applied TWICE.
- First, last week we scored Shirt Balls as a forfeit, as they were not present and no pre-bowling scores were in our file. However, Scoot found out last night that Shirt Balls had indeed pre-bowled last week, but since they did so on Monday night their scores didn't make it into our folder. So here's how this mess was resolved:
- Shirt Balls' pre-bowling scores for last week were retroactively added in, and they were credited for games they won as a result. (Last week's recap will remain as-is, revising it is too much work.)
- Since bowling against (what you think is) a forfeit is an entirely different mindset from bowling against a team, in that the pressure is off once you are within 40 pins below your average, we have decided not to take away any of the wins Dirty PJs earned last week when they thought they were bowling a forfeit. (Scoot is contributing extra money to the prize fund to offset, so the value of individual wins in the prize fund is not diminished by these "extra wins".)
- Shirt Balls used a sub last week in place of Ryan Schooley, not realizing subs were not allowed. However since this ultimately did not have any effect in the standings, we let it slide with a warning not to do it again next season.
- However, they didn't put the sub's name into the computer or score sheet. This resulted in the sub's scores getting factored into Ryan Schooley's average by mistake. Because of this, last night they handicap appeared to be +61 for Dirty PJs, when in fact it was +51. Since these were close games, the end result last night turned out to be different than what these two teams walked away thinking they were.
So, with all that out of the way and fixed: Regardless of the star power of Josh Rothermel with his 379 series, Dirty PJs accomplished only 1 win against Shirtballs. Conversely, Garrett Rathbone with his 483 series motivated Shirtballs as his team took the match with 3 wins. JoAnne's Dirty PJs climb 1 spot in the standings to finalize their efforts in 10th place, while Shirtballs go home with 12th as they knew they would when the joined us late.
Bowlers getting the VIP treatment in The 200 Club include: Ben Spencer (211), Carl Goetz (214), Ian Goetz (200), Jeremy Cline (205), Matthew Taylor (237,203), and Michael Gordon (209)
After a hard fought season, the Tournament of Champions was won tonight by Nicole Yancy (Division 4), with Luke Melton (Division 3) landing in second place. Nicole will pocket the nice first-place pot, while Luke will take away the second-place pot. Congratulations!
NEXT WEEK:
Though tonight was the last night that counts, we still have one more week to go! Next week begins with a league meeting led by CICK Ass, where awards winners will be announced and prize money handed out. Everybody gets cash! The meeting will be at 6:30 and, unless otherwise announced later, will be held in the Small Meeting Room in Finnnegan's Hall. (Go through the door in the back of the snack bar and turn right.) After that, 9-pin tap bowling just for fun! (Knocking down 9 pins on the first ball counts as a strike.)
