The 11th Frame – Week 8, Spring 2013

Posted by Ken March 21, 2013 Spring 2013

The eighth installment of "The 11th Frame" features some interesting nuggets from our Top 25s collection, covering the accolades (and disappointments) of our current and not so-current league rollers. As mentioned already in this week's write-up – the position round went down with a HUGE personal performance by Bill Krejci while just about every single team switching places in the league standings. Wondering what else happened that you probably didn't know about? Check this out:INDIVIDUALS:

Bill's big beatdown

Bill Krejci
Tuesday night was huge for Bill Krejci. Simply put, the man rolled an incredible series comprised of two incredible games. His timing, however, was the icing on the cake as he did it during the position round and propelled his team that, several weeks ago, wasn't even in the top half of the league standings, is now a mere half game out of first place. Bill's series was, easily, the crown jewel on the Top 25 Highest Position Round Performances of all time.
JV is on the upswing

Jonathan Vigliaturo
When he debuted in the league back in the Fall '11 season, JV caught "the fever." He went out, got a new ball, and set his sights on getting better. His study of the game and countless hours of practice continues to pay off. As it stands now, he's moved up again on the Top 25 Most Improved Bowlers of All Time list to 22nd and currently shares the top record for Top 25 Bowlers Who Improved the Most In-Between Seasons having increased his average from 136 to 164, an increase of +28 pins. Keep going, Beardo!
Mr. 300 in trouble

David Codding
It took our league rolling well over 30,000 games before someone finally nailed a perfect game when David Codding did it last season. While Codding's name is all over the majority of the heavy hitting Top 25 lists, he is in danger of being knocked off one that surprises us – Top 25 Bowlers with the Most Consecutive 200 Games. Currently at 25th with four games, Codding could be eliminated next week by Bill Krejci, Kody Karnes, Cliff Barendsen, or Ken M. Wilson, each who ended their nights with at least two consecutive 200+ games. Will Mr. 300 vanish forever from the list next week? Only time will tell.

TEAMS:

Mounting a comeback?
Throughout the league's history, we've seen a lot of comebacks by both individuals as well as by teams. One season saw a team go from being tied for last place in Week #1 and clawing their way up to 4th place after the position round before eventually winning the entire season for the championship in the Finals. Even with that, that team only landed at 17th on the Top 25 Best 2nd-Half Win Records of All Time, going 22-10. Anyone thinking their team is poised to make their way onto this list by season's end?
Where are the win streaks?
Back in the Fall '09 season, the eventual league champs put up a 28-game consecutive win streak during their run. They ended the season with a 55-9 record, the best in league history. Before them, the Fall '08 season saw a team put up a then-record 21 consecutive victories. This season, though? We all seem to be conspiring to keep one another from making the Top 25 Longest Win Streaks. The longest streak we've seen this session was when Snakes on a Lane went 8-0 during Weeks #3-4. The Dragon Balls and Murder, He Wrote have the best shot to make the list with their respective 5 and 4 consecutive wins at the moment. A team needs at least 11 to make the list these days.

ODDITIES & STRAIGHT UP NUMBERS:

Impressive first half
Take a bow, Spring '13 bowlers...collectively, we're pretty damn awesome. Currently we are sitting at #1 on the Top 25 Best Seasons in League History with our 160.2911 average. We're on pace to throw the most 200+ games in a single season...and the top season on that list (Spring '07) had 40 bowlers as compared to our 32-person roster. We've seen huge games, series, debuts, and a slew of other accolades...and we're only half way through the season. No telling what we'll see over the course of the next eight weeks.
