At 6:30pm on Tuesday night, eight teams all began their quest towards the Spring 2011 title in the VML Bowling League. Along side a good number of returning veterans, four new faces made their debuts – we gladly welcome Kelly Anderson, Russell Madsen, Jeremy Stockbridge and substitute Matt Miquelon into the fold. Ready to find out how everyone did? Well, let's go...Fresh off their championship run last season, three of last season's 1st place team returned as S*I*C*K (named after the first name initials of the members of the team in their bowling order) in an attempt to continue their run for another title. Facing opponents Touch My Vlad, the team wasted no time in showing why they will be the team to beat this season. Led jointly by Ian Goetz and this week's #1 Power Ranking bowler Ken M. Wilson – both ending their night with a league-leading 582 series – S*I*C*K charges out to a perfect 4-0 start and currently reside in first place. Leading the charge for Vlad was Chris Able, who shot a 383 series. Touch My Vlad start their season off in 8th place.Down on Lanes 21 & 22, two powerhouse teams with long established histories of dominating the league standings in past sessions faced off against one another on the inaugural night. No Pinheads managed to come away the victor this time, taking a 2.5-1.5 matchup win over Dolls and Balls. After battling one another to a standstill in Game #1 with a score of 668-668, the Pinhead's Aubrey Moren threw a team-high 512 series to take Games #2 and total pins. The Balls' anchor Ryan Doll stepped up with a 519 series to secure the team's lone outright win in Game #3. With the outcome No Pinheads find themselves in 3rd place while Dolls and Balls start their season off in 6th. Both of these teams are expected to do well this season with each head-to-head matchup destined to be hard fought games. The other perfect start to the season goes to Istanbowl Turkey who defeated awesomely named opponents Tonganoxie Doglift in a clean sweep...barely. After having a rough off-season complete with foot surgery and an auto accident, Angela Bradford – this week's Most Valuable Bowler – showed that nothing could stop her as she led the way with a 540 series. The brightly shirted Turkeys blinded their competition in Games #1 and #2 before taking Game #3 by a single pin. Doglift's anchor Shane Pfaffly kept his team in the hunt but came up short despite his 439 series. Total pins places Istanbowl in 2nd while Tonganoxie rides its way into 7th place. The final matchup of the evening found Eat Split and DI and SucmaBOWLS going back and forth on a roller coaster ride. With Eat's anchor Jake Parrott leading the way with a 427 series, the team took Game #1. Battling back, Suc's Orion Kinkaid came up strong in a big way with his 478 series to take Games #2 and #3. The final game of the night was settled by a mere five pins. Eat managed to hold on for the total pins victory to split the night 2-2 between the teams. Eat and Sucma land in 4th and 5th places, respectively.Four bowlers managed to make their way into The 200 Club in their 2011 debuts. They include: Freda Schroeder (204), Ian Goetz (213), Ken M. Wilson (213) and Orion Kinkaid (206).See you next Tuesday!
