The St. John's bowling alley bar is available for snacks and drinks from about 6:00pm until we finish bowling. But if you're in the mood for something else to eat or additional drinks before or after bowling, we've got you covered! For those unfamiliar with Strawberry Hill, here is a guide to nearby options that are open on Tuesday evenings, in ascending order of distance from the St. John's Bowling Alley. Walk times are provided for the first six, which are all fewer then ten minutes away by foot. Most of these places are Scooter-frequented and many get the coveted Scoot Seal of Approval™'

2. Breit's Stein & Deli

Amazingly good deli sandwiches and full bar with beer garden in back

3. Hillsiders

403 N 5th (5 minute walk / 4 minute drive)
Open 5pm-1:30am
Originally opened as a bar in the 1940s, but spent the past decade vacant. Re-opened in October 2022 after an 11-month renovation. Quirky and fun decor. Bottled beer and cocktails for now, a kitchen is in the works.

4. Fat Matt's Vortex

411 N 6th (7 minute walk / 3 minute drive)
Open until 1am.
Dive bar, with pool table, in a historic former mortuary. Ask about its role the 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic for an interesting bit of history.

5. Easy Inn

322 N 6th (9 minute walk / 3 minute drive)
Open 5pm-2am
Dive bar with burgers, pizza, wings, nachos, tacos, and hot sandwiches. (Note: Photos are from a few years ago when it was Colonial Club, the exterior is a different color now.)

6. 7th Street Casino

Open 24 hours (Cafe open until 11pm, Bar open until 1:30am)

7. Sammy's Tavern

8. The Mockingbird Lounge

Cocktail bar with small craft beer selection and a nice patio with a great skyline view. (NOTE: Food currently unavailable on Tuesdays.)

Note: Google Maps incorrectly places its Chicago's marker on a private residence next door. Until they update with the correction I submitted, my generic marker linked here is correct.

13. Johnnie's On Seventh

55 S 7th (5 minute drive)
Open until 2am.
Neighborhood sports dive with cocktails, a good beer selection, pool table, and shuffleboard.

Seal of Approval withheld only because of the smoking. Otherwise it's a nice example of an old school dive bar, populated with nice people.

14. Strawberry South

48 S 7th (5 minute drive)
Open until 2am.
Very divey cash-only dive bar with pool table and smoking allowed. Beer only.
Note: This is a private club. You cannot get in without a membership and cannot get a membership unless sponsored by a regular. HOWEVER, Scoot has a membership so may be able to get you in if you really want to visit.
