The most volatile week of each season is always, without a doubt, Week #2. Averages set the in the debut week fluctuate wildly as bowlers either get hot or cool off and teams struggle to secure victories during this roller coaster ride. A total of six teams swapped places Tuesday night with the exception of the team on top and the team on bottom but we're pretty confident that this pattern will continue as the Spring 2015 season rolls on. Amazingly, six bowlers in the league currently carry averages above 200 – the most we've ever seen in league history. In the first matchup of the evening, The Pin is Mightier took a narrow Game #1 victory over opponents Squirtin' Tunas behind a team-leading 480 series out of anchor Scott "Scooter J" Murdock. Not to be outdone, the Tuna's Aaron Barber hoisted a 597 series to take a 1-pin win in Game #2 as well as an an 8-pin victory to secure Game #3 but eventually lost out in total pins by only seven to split the series 2-2. With the wins, Squirtin' Tunas slip one spot down into 3rd while The Pin is Mightier climbs one spot up into 6th place.Last season, the majority of Gimme Headpin set record after record en route to the Fall 2014 championship. This season, they are looking to do the same. Remaining undefeated, the guys nearly bested the all-time record for a team series against opponents Split It & Hit It with their combined 2,603 series. Led by anchor Ken M. Wilson and his 717 series – who was also this week's #1 Power Ranked bowler, Gimme continues to grab up the wins and now sits at a perfect 8-0 in 1st place. Split It, led by anchor Dennis Blake and his 495 series, continue to look for their first win of the season and remain in 8th place. On lanes 45-46, last week's most purposefully guttering team – Amazeballs – took on the 2nd most purposefully guttering team – 10 Pins 10 Balls. Despite adding another notch in their win column in Game #1, the Amazeballs took a backseat to the 10 Pins. With anchor Aubrey Moren leading the way with his 589 series along with this week's Most Valuable Bowler performance out of teammate Freda Schroeder, the unconfirmed 10 Balls stormed back to take the series 3-1. With the victories the members of 10 Pins 10 Balls move up one spot to 4th while the Amazeballs, led tonight by anchor Ryan Doll's 591 series, fall down two spots to a not-so-amazing 5th place. The final pair of lanes hosted the first matchup of the season between Sponsored by Rogue and Ballz Out, easily the two most fun teams to face. Unfortunately for Ballz Out, the outing was not so much fun as Rogue routed them 4-0 in a contest that saw none of the games settled by less than a 100+ pins. Leading the charge for Sponsored by Rogue was Carl Goetz and his demonic 666 series that propelled his team up to two spots into 2nd place. Ballz Out, still off to a better start than last season, was led by Cliff Barendsen's 505 series but falls one spot down into 7th place. The Tournament of Champions has crunched another week of numbers in preparation for kicking off at the start of Week #4. Your average at the end of Week #3 will officially place you within your division this season so get those scores up (or down, depending on where you hope to be seeded). Bowlers yearning to becoming regulars this season in The 200 Club this week include: Aaron Barber (209, 212), Aubrey Moren (217), Bob Brunker (202), Brian Coe (254, 255), Carl Goetz (222, 242, 202), Ian Goetz (202, 247, 203), Ken M. Wilson (225, 276, 216), Kody Karnes (203, 233, 213), Phil Schroeder (200), Ryan Doll (222), and Scott Murdock (201).See you next Tuesday!

Wasting No Time

With the holiday season behind us, it was once again time to get down to business with the 31st season of GutterAlley action. Thirty-two bowlers across eight teams will duke it out over 16 weeks as one team will make its way to winning it all and be named the champs of the Spring 2015 season. While the majority of the league showed up to kick off Week #1 action, one team was mysteriously absent...Kicking the season off on the first pair of lanes, last season's 2nd and 3rd place finishers did battle once again in a roller coaster of a matchup. Behind an impressive start for his season, Aubrey Moren stepped up for 10 Pins 10 Balls to deliver a 610 series and the firepower necessary to take Game #1. Not to be outdone, Carl Goetz put up a 602 series for Sponsored by Rogue (comically misspelled "Rouge" on the monitor) to tie the teams at a game piece after Game #2. Game #3 came down to the 10th frame as the 10 Pins managed to outdo their opponents but not by enough to overcome the total pins loss in the second contest to end the night in a 2-2 split. Sponsored begins their season in 4th with 10 Pins 10 Balls immediately behind them in 5th place. Dennis "Pops" Laube was this week's Most Valuable Bowler.Lanes 43 & 44 had a slew of interesting occurrences happen on it – from two bowlers needing to make a hasty exit and finishing their evening on a separate pair of lanes to a career accountant not able to work a calculator to do simple math as well as a number of intentional gutterballs all in the name of victory. Despite all of these shenanigans, the Amazeballs came away with a 3.5-0.5 matchup victory over opponents Ballz Out. The Amaze's Ryan Doll intentionally guttered his way to a season-starting 539 series to nearly take the cake but fell just a little short in securing the first week sweep. Cliff Barendsen seems to have put last season behind him and came out firing with a 570 series to start the season in 6th. Amazeballs quickly finds themselves in 2nd place after their orchestrated start.Having finished last season in 1st place, Gimme Headpin wasted no time whatsoever at returning to the top of the perch. With the best bowler in league history away for a golf tournament, Kody Karnes donned the Superman cape and emphatically led his team to a 4-0 victory over opponents The Pin is Mightier with his 710 series. Not surprisingly, Karnes was this week's #1 Power Ranked bowler. Putting out the most firepower for Pin Is was...wait, are you serious?!?...Scott Murdock with his 471 series. Gimme Headpin starts out in 1st while The Pin Is Mightier finds themselves in 7th place. On the final pair of lanes, the Squirtin' Tunas were presented with both a blessing and a curse when first week opponents Split It & Hit It were no shows. This enacts the good old league rule in which a 4-man team must bowl within 40 pins of their team average in order to secure a victory. So how did it all play out? With anchor Aaron Barber putting up a solid 630 series to kick off the Spring session for the Tunas, the team still managed to let Game #1 slip away by the tiniest of margins to debut with a record of 3-1. The wins put the guys in 3rd while, big shock, Split It & Hit It begin their season in the cellar. An all points bulletin has been put out to find our fearless foursome. The Tournament of Champions, just like Big Brother, is watching you already. Your average at the end of Week #3 will officially place you within your division this season so get those scores up (or down, depending on where you want to end up). Starting out the Spring session in style by visiting The 200 Club this week was: Aaron Barber (221, 219), Aubrey Moren (247, 201), Carl Goetz (221), Cliff Barendsen (215), Ian Goetz (216, 213), Ken M. Wilson (210, 206), Kody Karnes (217, 225, 268), Phil Schroeder (226), Rob Kaszuba (223), and Seth Gunderson (205).See you next Tuesday!

A New King is Crowned

Posted by Ken On December - 10 - 2014ADD COMMENTS

The Fall 2014 season – our 30th since beginning back in the Winter of 1999 – came to a big finish Tuesday night with quite a few season-wide records to go with it. Not only was this the best season in our league's 15 year-history we also shattered the season record for the most 200+ games thrown in a single season. Collectively, we kicked some serious butt over these past 16 weeks. Congratulations to this season's championsJohn Boren (his 5th title), Kody Karnes (his 1st), Brian Coe (his 1st), and Ken M. Wilson (his 13th) – who ended the best record this time around.Let's face it: Brian Coe is the king of the league. Hoisting his 7th series over 700+ this season, Coe (once again this week's #1 Power Ranked bowler) led 921+ to not only the championship title a clean sweep over defending champions My Three Sons but also earning them the title of best team in league history. After the team's shaky first half, Coe led his crew to the best 2nd half win record in league history en route to his first championship Tuesday night as well as being crowned the best bowler in our league's history with his 219.687 average. Hall of Famer Seth Gunderson led the Sons with his 606 series but couldn't rally his team to stop the Coe steamroller. My Three Sons finishes with a 41-23 record and the honor of being the 5th beat team in league history. 921+ ended their season with a record of 45-19.Their fates in the standings already locked in before the first ball was thrown, 3rd place The Finger Holes faced off against 4th place More Beer, Chelsea on Lanes 43 & 44. Behind anchor Aubrey Moren's team-leading 572 series, The F-Holes took a decisive Game #1 victory over the competition. That's when Scott "Scooter J" Murdock decided enough was enough and hoisted his best series of the season – a 569 – to completely reverse the momentum in the matchup. Storming back to take it 3-1, Chelsea improved its record to 36-28 but end their run in 4th place nonetheless. The Finger Holes, finishing with a record of 38-26, held onto 3rd place. Ryan Doll, despite a losing record this season, had his best season to date ending his run with Dixie Stampede with his first 200+ average – a 201 – making him only the 8th bowler to end their season with an average above the 200 mark. Taking the final matchup of the season 3-1 against opponents Split It & Hit It, Doll led the Stampede with his 542 series to secure a 31-33 record and learning, once and for all, that you NEVER replace a Bill Krejci with the likes of a Jason Carpio. Split It's anchor Todd Way threw two 200+ games as part of his team-leading 532 series to take Game #1 but wasn't enough to find the answers to take any more. Split it, concluding their season in 6th place, end with a record of 26-38. They say that if you want to get better at something to just surround yourself with people that will elevate you. Michael Gordon did just that this season. Bowling alongside Pin and Tonics teammate Aaron Barber (who led the team with a 626 series), Gordon earned Most Valuable Bowler honors while setting a new career high series in his final matchup of the season. Winning 4-0 against opponents Ballz Out, Barber and Gordon provided the 1-2 punch this season to help the team improve their record to 25-39 but remained in 7th place. Cliff Barendsen, despite his best output all season with a 551 series (including two 200+ games), couldn't muster the strength to secure a single win and ends the Ballz' season with a 27-game losing streak with a record of 10-54. The Tournament of Champions was finished in a rather non-traditional way with Dan Imperial taking it by being the only bowler to qualify for Round #3. Congratulations, Imperial! You had a hell of a rookie season. Jake Parrot, due to the average power rank tie-breaker, takes 2nd place. They join the list of winners dating all the way back into the early 2000s although we officially began awarding the winners with cash prizes in the Spring 2012 season. This marks the third season in a row that the winner has come from Division 4.Helping us to crush that all-time record for the most 200+ games in a single season in The 200 Club this week includes: Aaron Barber (214, 245), Aubrey Moren (212), Brian Coe (233, 263, 224), Carl Goetz (215), Cliff Barendsen (202, 209), Ian Goetz (204), John Boren (205), Jonathan Vigliaturo (215), Ken M. For Whom the Bell Tolls

Posted by Ken On December - 2 - 2014ADD COMMENTS

With the results of Week #15 recorded, the matchups in the Finals this season are all set. It's been an interesting run so far, with a number of teams bouncing all over the place throughout the past four months and a number of long-time records falling. Collectively, this season has witnessed our roster of 32 bowlers throwing the best season in our league's 15 year-history. Nearly the entire league combined to throw more 200+ games than we've ever seen and there's still one more week to keep adding to that record. All in all, it's been an impressive season. Everyone – except Scoot – should be proud. In the first matchup of the night, Dixie Stampede showed up in the 10th frame to take a narrow win over opponents The Finger Holes in Game #1...but that was their last stand. Storming back behind lead off roller Phil Schroeder's 599 series, The F-Holes took every game the rest of the night to come away with a 3-1 matchup victory. Ryan Doll's 605 series wasn't enough to bring any more wins to Dixie's record and they remain in 5th place. The F-Holes also stay put, ending their regular season in 3rd place. You want to talk about some bullies? Let me tell you about Split It & Hit It. Facing off against Ballz Out – who, sadly, has cracked the top 10 for longest losing streaks in league history – the Split It gang routed the Ballz behind Dennis Blake's 552 series, which also earned him Most Valuable Bowler honors as well. The Ballz, led this week by Cliff Barendsen's 450 series, continues to struggle to find wins and remains firmly in 8th place. Split It, with their 25-35 record, remain in 6th place and will face Dixie Stampede in the Finals with a chance to move up to 5th if they can come away with a sweep. Looking to derail powerhouse team My Three Sons, the bound and determined More Beer, Chelsea showed up with pre-bowling scores from this week's #1 Power Ranked bowler compliments of Dan Imperial but it was only good for a close Game #2 victory. Running away with a 3-1 matchup victory, The Sons storm into the Finals next week tied for the best record in the league at 41-19. Led this week by Ian Goetz and his 623 series, the guys look to repeat as league champions after all is said and done and have a damn good chance to do so. More Beer, Chelsea remains in 4th place and will face The Finger Holes but cannot move ahead of them in the league standings even if they sweep. Also looking to take this season's title are the record-smashing members of 921+. Facing off against an ever-improving Pin and Tonics, the current league leaders remain the league leaders – by total pins only – after a 663 series out of 921+'s Kody Karnes. Karnes also managed to break a long-standing record of sorts, by becoming only the second bowler in league history to throw ten consecutive 200+ games – a feat not accomplished since Don Glasscock hoisted seventeen in a row back in the Spring 2008 season. Aaron Barber's 560 series helped the Tonics to start the night off with a Game #1 victory but it was all 921+ after that. The gang's 3-1 victory pushes them into the Finals in 1st place to do battle against nemesis My Three Sons in a winner-takes-all showdown. Pin and Tonics, ending the regular season with a record of 21-39, will face off against Ballz Out and hopes to help them extend their losing streak. The Tournament of Champions is all set with the seeding sitting as follows:#1 Ryan Doll will face #8 Jake Parrott#2 Carl Goetz will face #7 Dan Imperial#3 Aubrey Moren will face #6 Michael Gordon#4 Phil Schroeder will face #5 Rob KaszubaGood luck, gentlemen! The extremely busy establishment known as The 200 Club saw some new recruits this week rubbing elbows with the regulars, including: Aaron Barber (245), Aubrey Moren (205), Brian Coe (231, 217), Carl Goetz (216, 204, 201), Dan Imperial (201), Dennis Blake (221), Ian Goetz (202, 222), John Boren (215), Jonathan Vigliaturo (233), Ken M. Wilson (246), Kody Karnes (213, 226, 224), Phil Schroeder (221), Ryan Doll (214, 204), and Seth Gunderson with his 100th 200+ game (235). See you next Tuesday!

Turkeys Galore

Posted by Ken On November - 25 - 2014ADD COMMENTS

Thanksgiving is later this week and, in its own special way, the league gave thanks to the Bowling Gods by sacrificing many, many turkeys on the lanes in Week #14 action. After the feathers stopped flying, half of the league managed to change places in the standings with the top two teams remaining neck and neck with two weeks to go. The standings at the end of next week will determine the seeding in The Finals. After their dominating victory last week over their main competition, My Three Sons stared down opponents Pin and Tonics and came away with a hard fought 4-0 victory. While Game #2 was a walk in the park, Games #1 and #3 came down to the wire with the Son's Ian Goetz coming up big with his 688 series to lead the way. Aaron Barber's 588 series was the highest output for Pin and Tonics who, with the losses, slip one spot down into 7th place. My Three Sons improves their overall record to 38-18 and remains in 2nd place due to total pins. More than likely these guys will be looking to defend their title in The Finals after having emerged as champions last season. The last time 921+ showed up to face More Beer, Chelsea, the team simply did not fire on any cylinders and walked away having added no wins to their record. Tuesday night, however, was an exercise in revenge. With Brian Coe remaining super hot with his scores – he not only earned #1 Power Ranked bowler honors but is now closing in on Don Glasscock's record for being named the league's Best Bowler of All-Time – 921+ came away with a 4-0 sweep behind Coe's 725 series. Chelsea's anchor Eric Lynch had the highest output for his team, ending the night with a 557 series but couldn't quite manage to put the puzzle pieces together to earn a win over the re-energized 921+. The victors hold onto 1st with their 38-18 record and total pins tiebreaker while More Beer, Chelsea slips one spot down into 4th place. It's no secret that Dixie Stampede's anchor Ryan Doll is having his best season ever. Looking to be only the 8th bowler to end a season with a 200+ average, Doll's maintained his above-average streak by rolling a 625 series to lead his crew 3-1 over opponents Split It & Hit It. Game #2 proved to be the rain on Dixie's parade as Split It's Dennis Blake charged in to save the day with his 574 series to come away with their lone win of the night. Dixie remains in 5th place while trying to claw their way to a winning record (they are currently at 27-29) while Split It & Hit It, with their lone win, move up one spot into 6th place.Down on Lanes 47 & 48, what may have been the longest matchup in recorded league history took place...and we're not saying that alcohol had any influence on the delay, nope, none whatsoever. Regardless, The Finger Holes managed to walk away with four shiny new wins to add to their record and remain the only other team within striking distance of the top two teams in the standings currently. Despite a Game #1 scare, in which anchor Aubrey Moren's 584 series helped to not only secure the narrow victory but also this week's Most Valuable Bowler nod. After their 10th frame victory it was smooth sailing from then on as they put it to Ballz Out for the remainder of the night. The wins help The F-Holes to improve to 34-22 and move up one spot into 3rd while Ballz Out continues to sit in 8th place.Next week is the last time that bowlers can improve their placement within the Tournament of Champions so make it count. Here's how it's currently sitting:Division 1 = Ryan Doll (24), Ian Goetz (17)Division 2 = Aubrey Moren (25), Jonathan Vigliaturo (22)Division 3 = Rob Kaszuba (24), Michael Gordon (21)Division 4 = Jake Parrott (22), Dan Imperial (19)Bowlers in The 200 Club this week wondering if Brian will be able to topple Don after all is said and done include: Aaron Barber (247), AJ Hofmann (201), Aubrey Moren (200, 202), Brian Coe (222, 257, 246), Bryan Morh (204), Carl Goetz (216), Dennis Blake (213, 206), Ian Goetz (226, 256, 206), Ken M. Eye on the Prize

Posted by Ken On November - 18 - 2014ADD COMMENTS

The Finals are less than a month away now and, with the results of Week #13, it's still almost anybody's game. Big scores and even bigger series continue to permeate the league as teams strive to add as many wins to their record before it's all said and done. Hell, three different bowlers shot a 256 tonight. So let's get down to the particulars, shall we?Try as they might, Ballz Out simply can't break out of their current rut. Facing a re-energized Dixie Stampede – led, once again, by anchor Ryan Doll who shot a 676 series – the Ballz took it on the chin as the Stampede ran away with a 4-0 matchup victory. Led by sub Matt Fitzgerald and his 443 series, Ballz falls to a 10-42 record and remains in 8th. Dixie Stampede, on the other hand, improves to 24-28 but remains in 5th place.Where oh were were the men of Split It & Hit It? The world may never know. With their competition forfeiting, it was up to the bowlers of The Finger Holes to put up games within 40 pins of their team average to come away with the victories. Led by anchor Aubrey Moren's 560 series, the team did just that – albeit with two of their team games below average. It didn't matter in the end, though, as they earned the four victories and improved to 30-22 but remain in 4th place. Split It fell one spot into 7th place with a record of 20-32.For centuries it has been well documented that the third sign of the apocalypse is whenever Scott Murdock is crowned the Most Valuable Bowler of any week of GutterAlley action. Well, beware everyone, as Murdock's team leading 540 series caused him not only to earn the accolades but also helped More Beer, Chelsea stay in the thick of things after splitting their series 2-2 against opponents Pin and Tonics. With the Tonics' Aaron Barber chucking a team leading 615 series, the teams went back and forth in their slugfest with neither team ever taking consecutive victories. Despite the split neither team moved at all in the standings with Chelsea holding onto 3rd at 32-20 and the Pin and Tonics remaining in 6th place with the opposite record of 20-32. This season, only two teams have been in first place: My Three Sons and 921+. Facing off for the second time this season, My Three Sons once again brought their A-game and derailed the dominant 921+ squad who entered the night having won 23 of their last 24 games to take the top spot atop the league standings. Once again led by Ian Goetz, who shot a 644 series, the Sons closed the gap with a 3-1 matchup win and are now tied with 921+ with records of 34-18. Only total pins separate the two teams, with 921+ still technically holding onto 1st place. Brian Coe, this week's #1 Power Ranked bowler with his league leading 704 series, continues to march toward a league record that we never thought would be broken – Don Glasscock's 219 average. We're just a few short weeks away from the Tournament of Champions and here's how it stands:Division 1 = Ryan Doll (23), Ken Wilson (15)Division 2 = Aubrey Moren (19), Jonathan Vigliaturo (19)Division 3 = Rob Kaszuba (24), Chadwick Andrews (17)Division 4 = Dan Imperial (18), Jake Parrott (16)The cold weather couldn't keep the following bowlers away from The 200 Club this week: Aaron Barber (224, 208), Aubrey Moren (220, 205), Brian Coe (212, 256, 236), Carl Goetz (203), Ian Goetz (205, 256), John Boren (266), Jonathan Vigliaturo (247), Kody Karnes (213, 224, 245), Ryan Doll (256, 234), and Seth Gunderson (200).See you next Tuesday!

Vets Battle on Veteran’s Day

Posted by Ken On November - 11 - 2014ADD COMMENTS

While temperatures plummeted outside, scores plummeted inside overall in Week #12 of GutterAlley action as our league average took a dive. Despite big victories across the four matchups only two teams ended up moving at all in the league standings. Gaps are starting to form in-between the various teams throughout the league as the Finals draw closer and closer. Brace yourself, folks...it's going to be a bumpy ride.In the first matchup of the night, My Three Sons looked to return to the top of the league standings but stalled out against opponents Split It & Hit It. After taking Games #1 and #2 behind a 554 series from Ian Goetz, the Sons looked poised to add yet another sweep to their win record but Split It's Dennis Blake had other plans. With his team leading 526 series leading the charge, Split It rallied to not only take Game #3 but covered the spread enough to come away with the total pins victory as well to end the night with a 2-2 split. Neither team moved at all in the standings, with My Three Sons remaining in 2nd while Split It & Hit It holds onto 6th place.Down on lanes 43 & 44, the Dixie Stampede looked to climb back up into prominence at the expense of Pin and Tonics. What ended up happening, however, was a back and forth between the two opponents. Drawing first blood was Dixie, led by anchor Ryan Doll's 643 series, who came away with a close Game #1 victory. Fighting back to secure a huge Game #2 blowout victory were the Tonics that saw high output from Aaron Barber, who led the team with his 580 series, along with Michael Gordon's first 200+ game (a 203!). Game #3 was all Dixie as the team rallied behind this week's #1 Power Ranked bowler Rob Kaszuba to earn the win. Total pins still landed in the Tonic's court, however, to end the night at two wins apiece. Neither team moved in the standings, with Dixie Stampede remaining in 5th while the Pin & Tonics hold onto 7th place. The last time that The Finger Holes faced current league leaders 921+, it ended with The F-Holes walking away victorious. Such was not the case Tuesday night. Led by anchor Ken M. Wilson's 640 series, 921+ exacted their revenge in a 4-0 sweep of the competition while hoisting yet another entry in the top ten of the Top 25 Best Team Series of All Time on teams of 4-per. The F-Holes, led this week by lead off roller Phil Schroeder and his 530 series, simply couldn't find the firepower to derail the steamrolling 921+. The current league toppers extend their league lead by two games out in 1st while The Finger Holes fall one spot down into 4th place. In the final matchup of the night, More Beer, Chelsea continues to have their storybook season as they came away with a 4-0 matchup victory over competitors Ballz Out. With more charity wins than any other team this season – more than legitimate wins from the Ballz (happy now, AJ?) – Chelsea rode the wave of Most Valuable Bowler's Dan Imperial's stellar output alongside a team leading series of 468 from anchor Eric Lynch to notch the four victories. Ballz, led by Chadwick Andrews and his 483 series, continues to search for answers as they remain in 8th place. More Beer, Chelsea climbs one spot into 3rd place. The Tournament of Champions currently looks like this:Division 1 = Ryan Doll (23), Ken Wilson (15)Division 2 = Jonathan Vigliaturo (19), Aubrey Moren (18)Division 3 = Rob Kaszuba (21), Chadwick Andrews (17)Division 4 = Dan Imperial (18), Michael Smith/Jake Parrott (15)Bowlers trying to stay warm in The 200 Club this week include: Aaron Barber (205), Brian Coe (227, 223), Bryan Mohr (200), Ian Goetz (201), Jonathan Vigliaturo (202), Ken M. Wilson (226, 204, 210), Kody Karnes (216, 236), Michael Gordon (203), Rob Kaszuba (224), and Ryan Doll (215, 222, 206). See you next Tuesday!

With the baseball season finally over, 31 of the 32 bowlers competing in the Fall 2014 season showed up to do battle in Week #11 of GutterAlley action. With six teams changing spots in the league standings, it turns out that only three games separate the top four teams in the league and total pins are coming into play to slot the competitors. Several bowlers shot their personal bests as league continues to march onward towards the Finals a mere five weeks away.In the first matchup of the night, 921+ did what they have been aiming to do since relinquishing control of first place several months back – they've returned to the top of the roost. Behind rookie Brian Coe's 756 series (the 4th highest series in league history), the high rollers took all four games against opponents Ballz Out. While Chadwick Andrews put up the highest series for the Ballz with his 480 series, the breakout performance of the team goes to Bryan Bay who shot both his personal best game (a 188) as part of his personal best series (a 457). The men of 921+ improve to 29-15 to reclaim 1st due to total pins while Ballz Out remains in in 8th place with a record of 10-34.All season long, The Finger Holes has wondered where their star bowler has been. Well, Aubrey Moren certainly showed up Tuesday night with his all time personal best game and series by shooting a 264 game and a 692 series en route to a 3-1 trouncing of More Beer, Chelsea. Needless to say, Moren was this week's #1 Power Ranked bowler. Chelsea's anchor Eric Lynch put up the most fire power for his team with his 524 series but only managed to secure a lone win in Game #2 to break up Moren's high output. With their three wins, The F-Holes improve to 26-18 and move up one spot into 3rd place. Chelsea, also with a record now of 26-18, slips into 4th place due to total pins.Having been atop the league standings for several months now, My Three Sons knuckled down to try to remain ahead of the pack but ended up battling themselves to a standstill against the reawakened Dixie Stampede. With Carl Goetz and his 607 series securing Games #1 and #2 for the Sons, Ryan Doll countered with a 606 to stampede back with his team to not only win Game #3 but also take total pins by 21 pins to end the night at two games apiece. My Three Sons slips into 2nd place due to total pins while Dixie Stampede remains one of only two team that did not move at all, sitting in 5th place. In the last matchup of the night, Split It & Hit It had high hopes of making a charge in the second half of the season and adding some wins to their record. Fortunately for them they had this week's Most Valuable Bowler on their team by the name of Dennis Blake. Hoisting a team leading 550 series, Blake paved the way for the first sweep the team has seen all year. Opponents Pin and Tonics took it on the chin despite a 458 series from anchor Aaron Barber. Interesting sidenote -- since Week #6, Split It has either swept or been swept every week. With their wins, Split It & Hit It moves up one spot into 6th place while the Pin and Tonics fall one spot into 7th place. The Tournament of Champions currently looks like this:Division 1 = Ryan Doll (17), Brian Coe/Ken M. Wilson (12)Division 2 = Aubrey Moren (18), Jonathan Vigliaturo (16)Division 3 = Rob Kaszuba (20), Eric Lynch (16)Division 4 = Michael Smith (15), Jake Parrott (15)Bowlers avoiding the falling leaves outside inside The 200 Club this week include: Aubrey Moren (264, 215, 213), Brian Coe (210, 268, 278), Carl Goetz (240), Dennis Blake (208, 201), Ian Goetz (206), Jason Carpio (221), Ken M. With the Royals on the brink of elimination in the World Series playing in the background, the GutterAlley bowling league stepped up to the plate in a big way during Week #10 action. In what is shaping up to be the best season in league history, the Fall 2014 season continues to bring big scores and even bigger series into the record books...including a new #1 that knocks down a score that has stood since September 30, 2008. Ready to see how the league stacks up after all is said and done? Let's get it on.With half of their team at the big game, the other half of The Finger Holes showed up to do battle with the Pin and Tonics. With victories in Games #1 and #2, behind a 556 series from pre-bowling Phil Schroeder, the F-Holes looked primed to walk away with a clean sweep until the Tonics decided to take a stand and call an end to their losing. With Aaron Barber's 460 series leading the way, the Pin and Tonics pulled off a 10th frame 6-pin win in Game #3 to keep from getting blanked. Despite the wins, The Finger Holes remain in 4th place with their 23-17 record. Pin and Tonics, improving to 16-24, remain in 6th place.Having remained atop the league standings since the second week, My Three Sons continues to hold steady in 1st place after a 3-1 matchup victory over opponents Ballz Out. Having turned in their pre-bowling scores for tonight earlier, the big output managed to earn them victories in Games #2, #3, and total pins to remain at the top of the heap with their 27-13 record. Ian Goetz's 651 series was the tops for the Sons. Game #1 was the highlight of the evening for the Ballz, as Cliff Barendsen's 541 series (including a 220 in their lone victory) held to help the team improve to 10-30 but remain in 8th place.Several weeks back, rookie sensation Brian Coe rolled the lowest series of his short career in GutterAlley and left thinking "had I not shown up, we would have won." Since that night, Coe has shown up and been the biggest contributor on the legitimately named 921+ as he led the team to yet another 4-0 win – this week over opponents Split It & Hit It – with his 713 series and earning #1 Power Ranked bowler accolades in the process . Game #1 was the highlight for the team as it reached the milestone they came together to best, taking the all time record for a team score with a 4-person team with their 934. Split It's Dennis Blake put up the highest series for his team, ending the night with a 555 series to remain in 7th place with their 14-26 record. 921+ remains in 2nd, trailing the league leaders by two games, at 25-15. With more charity wins than any other team in the league, More Beer, Chelsea continues to remain in 3rd place after a 4-0 beatdown of Dixie Stampede this week. Led by Scott "Scooter J" Murdock and his 517 series (yes, you read that correctly), Chelsea improved their record to 25-15 to remain in 3rd place (back more than 7,000 pins from 2nd place) with help from this week's Most Valuable Bowler, Dan Imperial. The Stampede, whose pre-bowling scores simply were way off the mark, couldn't notch a single win but remain in 5th place with their 16-24 record. Ryan Doll's 511 series was the biggest for the team. The Tournament of Champions currently looks like this:Division 1 = Ryan Doll (16), Brian Coe (12)Division 2 = Jonathan Vigliaturo (16), Cliff Barendsen (13)Division 3 = Rob Kaszuba (14), Eric Lynch /Chadwick Andrews (13)Division 4 = Jake Parrott (14), Dan Imperial/Michael Smith (12)Bowlers unable to hear a thing in The 200 Club over all of the bandwagon Royals fans include: Brian Coe (258, 238, 217), Carl Goetz (233), Cliff Barendsen (220), Dennis Blake (231), Ian Goetz (228, 211, 212), John Boren (217), Jonathan Vigliaturo (234), Ken M. Wilson (235, 215), Kody Karnes (224, 247, 206), Phil Schroeder (229), Ryan Doll (211), and Scott Murdock (204).See you next Tuesday!

The Royals Treatment

Posted by Ken On October - 21 - 2014ADD COMMENTS

Tuesday night saw the Kansas City Royals return to the World Series for the first time in 29 years. Unlike the Royals, bowlers put up big scores to ensure the teams came away with wins including one that nearly ended in a perfect game. The complete story of Week #9 cannot be told just yet as the current league leaders are post-bowling later in the week but, what we have so far, is pretty impressive. Read on.In the first matchup of the night – which coincidentally was the last one to finish up – saw the last frame rolled by Split It & Hit It's bearded wonder, Matt Bunyard, who is headed to Colorado to begin a new life. Good luck, Matt! You will be missed. Unfortunately, victories were missed as well as opponents More Beer, Chelsea put it to them to notch a 4-0 clean sweep to send Bunyard off. Led by anchor Eric Lynch and his 505 series – and this week's Most Valuable Bowler performance from AJ Hofmann – Chelsea takes their wins and tentatively sit in 3rd place due to total pins. Split It, led by Dennis Blake and his 441 series, tentatively slip one spot into 7th place. On Lanes 43 & 44, 921+ looked to extend their win streak but fell short after 11-consecutive victories to lose Game #3 to a resurgent Dixie Stampede. Behind Brian Coe's league-leading 673 series, 921+ took Games #1 and #2 in 10th frame showdowns before falling to the Stampede in Game #3. Anchor Ryan Doll and his 618 series made the difference in their final battle and came away with their lone victory, missing total pins a difference of 19 pins. With the wins, 921+ tentatively remains in 2nd while Dixie Stampede remains in 5th place. What a night for Pin and Tonics' rookie Aaron Barber. After rolling the 4th highest game in league history with his 286, Barber's 652 series reversed the tides after a first game loss to opponents Ballz Out to end his big night with a 3-1 matchup victory. It's no surprise to anyone that Barber was this week's #1 Power Ranked bowler with his incredible output. Cliff Barendsen's 541 series led the Ballz Out battle was only enough to secure a win in the first game. The three wins tentatively push the Pin and Tonics up one spot into 6th while Ballz Out remains in 8th place. The matchup results between My Three Sons and The Finger Holes cannot be reported until all scores are in.The Tournament of Champions is also in a state of flux until all scores are in.Bowlers doing much better than our local baseball club this week in The 200 Club include: Aaron Barber (286), Brian Coe (222, 257), Cliff Barendsen (200), Jason Carpio (234), Ken M. Wilson (225, 226), Kody Karnes (203, 203), and Ryan Doll (201, 235), See you next Tuesday!

The Midway Point

Posted by Ken On October - 14 - 2014ADD COMMENTS

With the Royals playing once again, pre-bowling scores riddled the league's matchups and worked as a mixed bag across the board. A Hall of Famer reminded the league why he's one of the best bowlers we've ever seen en route to keeping his team atop the league standings while six other teams played musical chairs in the league standings. Ready to see how it all played out? Well, what are you waiting for?!?In the first matchup of the evening, half of My Three Sons showed up to do battle with one half of The Finger Holes. The other halves of each team had pre-bowled before the actual battle took place. Leading the league with the best output he's had in a while, the Sons' Carl Goetz hoisted a 690 series to not only earn himself #1 Power Ranked bowler accolades but also to secure a 4-0 sweep over their opponents. Aubrey Moren both put up a 489 series to lead the F-Holes in the losing effort, falling one spot into 3rd place. With the anchor of Dixie Stampede out with a bad back, 921+ took the opportunity to start making their big push to return to first place. With rookie of the season shoo-in Brian Coe putting up a 688 series, the men of 921+ added four more wins to their record (along with yet another top ten entry in the Top 25 Best Team Series list) to move into 2nd place. Brian Mohr added the most fire power for Dixie but it wasn't enough to derail their competition. Dixie Stampede falls two spots into 5th place.Down on Lanes 45-46, More Beer, Chelsea threw down the gauntlet against opponents Pin and Tonics. Narrowly missing their first sweep of the season by a handful of pins, Chelsea drank their way to a 3-1 matchup victory behind 491 series out of anchor Eric Lynch. The wins propel the team one spot up into 4th place. On the flip side, Michael Gordon had a breakout night to lead the Pins with his personal best series – a 491 – to help the team secure their lone win of the night in Game #2. Sadly the team topples one spot down into 7th place. With Bunyard leaving us to begin a new adventure in Colorado, a familiar face returned to replace him for the remainder of the season. Coincidentally, he was also this week's Most Valuable Bowler. Welcome back to the league, Dennis Blake! His 562 series led the charge in Split It & Hit It's 4-0 domination of opponents Ballz Out and took them up to 6th place. Cliff Barendsen 536 series led the way for the Ballz but remains down in 8th place. At the midway point, the Tournament of Champions sits like this:Division 1 = Ryan Doll (16), Carl Goetz (10)Division 2 = Aubrey Moren (10), Jonathan Vigliaturo (7)Division 3 = Eric Lynch (10), Rob Kaszuba (7)Division 4 = Dan Imperial (12), Michael Smith (11)Bowlers batting for .200 this week in The 200 Club include: Brian Coe (242, 209, 237), Carl Goetz (225, 268), Cliff Barendsen (200), Ian Goetz (202, 212), John Boren (245), Ken M. Sprinting into the Position Round

Posted by Ken On October - 7 - 2014ADD COMMENTS

At the conclusion of Week #7 Tuesday night, every team has now faced one another once. With the position round looming just ahead, wins become imperative while jockeying for a better spot where you can do more damage against your closest opponent. While the top three teams didn't budge, 4th through 8th place jumped, jived, and wailed into new spots. This season has seen some impressive scores and series from both teams as well as individuals and this week was no exception. Ready to hear the particulars? Well, read on...Coming off an impressive run with last week's matchup of being the only team to outright win a series against the 1st place team, Pin and Tonics looked to improve their spot in the league standings. Their opponent, the hapless 921+ that has not been up to snuff here lately, finally showed up. Led by this week's by Brian Coe's 725 series – which earned him both #1 Power Ranked bowler and Most Valuable Bowler honors – the team with the highest output in league history got down to business and moved up two spots to 4th place with their clean sweep of their opponents. The Tonic's Aaron Barber put up a team-leading 532 series but couldn't derail the surging 921s. Pin and Tonics fall one spot into 6th place.Looking to bounce back after their post-bowling losses earlier in the day, current standings leaders My Three Sons set out to stick it to More Beer, Chelsea. It simply wasn't in the cards, however, as Chelsea came away with win while sitting victories in Games #1 and #2 behind Eric Lynch's 515 series. Game #3, however, saw the Sons regroup from their narrow losses to exact revenge with a Game #3 victory that also sealed total pins for a 2-2 split series. Carl Goetz led the Sons with a 628 series and keeps his team in 1st place. More Beer Chelsea drop one spot into 5th place. After a slow start, Dixie Stampede has roared back into being a force with which to be reckoned. With Ryan Doll seemingly possessed – he rolled another impressive series for a second week in a row, ending with a 664 – the Stampede did just that against opponents The Finger Holes. After splitting the first two games, Dixie danced away with the 3-1 matchup victory and remains in 3rd place. Aubrey Moren's 512 series led the F-Holes but could only secure their lone victory in Game #2. Despite the losses, The Finger Holes remain in 2nd place. In the final matchup of the night, Split It & Hit It got a pleasant surprise as their opponents Ballz Out were a forfeiting no-show. Having only to come within 40 pins of their team average to secure wins, the team did just that and added four more wins to their record to climb out of the cellar and up one spot into 7th place. Sub Dennis Blake 499 series was the tops for the team. Ballz Out traded places with them and slip one spot to take over 8th place. The Tournament of Champions currently looks like this:Division 1 = Ryan Doll (16), Carl Goetz (10)Division 2 = Aubrey Moren (10), Jonathan Vigliaturo (7)Division 3 = Eric Lynch (9), Rob Kaszuba (7)Division 4 = Dan Imperial (12), Michael Smith (10)Bowlers talking smack about the position round in The 200 Club this week include: Brian Coe (225, 245, 255), Carl Goetz (201, 244), Ian Goetz (234), John Boren (234), Jonathan Vigliaturo (201), Ken M. Wilson (238, 205, 203), Kody Karnes (205, 201), and Ryan Doll (243, 242).See you next Tuesday!

The Crickets Have Stopped

Posted by Ken On September - 30 - 2014ADD COMMENTS

With the Kansas City Royals amazingly making it into the post-season for the first time since some of our league bowlers were born, half of the league did not show up to roll with plans to either post-bowl or already having pre-bowled. Week #6 had a lot of TBDs and tentatives...until now.The matchup between The Finger Holes and Ballz Out is now available, and patience paid off for cagey veterans. With only two team members putting bowling above baseball, Dennis "Pops" Laube led The F-Holes to a 3-1 victory with his 542 series. Chadwick Andrews had his Ballz Out to the tune of a 471 series but it was only enough to secure one win. Neither team shifted in the standings with The Finger Holes holding onto 2nd and Ballz Out still in 7th place.Dixie Stampede, who managed to have two of their bowlers pre-bowl, were able to complete their matchup against opponents Split It & Hit It. With Ryan Doll's 649 series leading the way along with this week's Most Valuable Bowler performance from teammate Bryan Mohr, Dixie notched a clean sweep to move up into 3rd place. Sub Dennis Blake put up the most firepower for Split It, ending his night with a 468 series. The team remains in 8th place. The season, so far, has belonged primarily to the men of My Three Sons. Post-bowling just a few hours before Week #7's action kicked off, they finally got to see the scores that Pin and Tonics put up while they were out losing their voices at The K. Leading the way with his 596 series, Aaron Barber's dominant performance helped wrap up Games #1 and #2 in the matchup. Game #3 saw the only life out of The Sons as they secured their lone victory in the contest, led by Seth Gunderson's 535 series. While My Three Sons remain in 1st, their lead is now down to just a single game. With their wins, Pin and Tonics move up into 5th place. After going 1-7 over the past two weeks, 921+ looked to make easy work of their competition and get back on track in their title run. The men of More Beer, Chelsea had other plans. Taking Game #1 behind anchor Eric Lynch's team leading 520 series, Chelsea was on fire with all four members of the team contributing. 921+, led by this week's #1 Power Ranked bowler performance from Ken M. Wilson's 678 series, managed to only secure a narrow win in Game #2, losing the last contest by six pins. More Beer remain in 4th despite the wins while 921+ tumbles three spots into 6th place. The Tournament of Champions currents looks like this:Division 1 = Ryan Doll (15), Ian Goetz (7)Division 2 = Jonathan Vigliaturo (7), Phil Schroeder (6)Division 3 = Rob Kaszuba (6), Eric Lynch (6), Michael Gordon (6)Division 4 = Jake Parrott (8), Michael Smith (7)Bowlers that made it into The 200 Club this week, albeit late, include: Aubrey Moren (203), Dennis Blake (211), Ian Goetz (229), John Boren (210), Jonathan Vigliaturo (205), Ken M. Wilson (237, 209, 232), Kody Karnes (204, 208), Ryan Doll (210, 205, 234), and Seth Gunderson (201).See you next Tuesday!

Number One Sons

Posted by Ken On September - 23 - 2014ADD COMMENTS

The league now has Week #5 in the history books and with it came some serious output from the first place team. While three teams swapped places in the league standings, only two teams remain standing with winning records – which has to be a first in our league's history. In the first showdown between the league's top two scoring teams, 921+ looked to bounce back after a piss poor performance last week. Unfortunately they could not derail My Three Sons' star performer this week – and #1 Power Ranked bowlerIan Goetz. Hoisting his very first 700+ series (he shot a 707 to tie for the 15th highest series in league history), Ian and crew easily laid waste to the underperforming 921+ crew. Ken M. Wilson put up the highest series for his team, a 598, in the losing effort. My Three Songs remains in 1st place by three games while 921+ remains in 3rd.In the off season, the core of Pin and Tonics looked to improve its roster and brought in former sub Aaron Barber. This Tuesday night, it paid off. With the gang fully in attendance, they nearly completed a sweep against opponents More Beer, Chelsea but ended up going 3-1 behind Barber's team-leading 579 series. Hall of Famers and league hump-recipient Scott Murdock led the Chelseas with a 499 series and kept his team from getting blanked with a Game #3 victory. Neither More Beer, Chelsea nor Pin and Tonics moved in the standings, remaining in 4th and 6th place respectively. After last week's disappointing fall into last place, Dixie Stampede decided to buck like an angry bull against opponents Ballz Out. Led by Ryan Doll's best output of the season thus far – a 618 series – coupled with this week's Most Valuable Bowler performance from Rob Kaszuba, the under-manned Stampede roared back with a clean sweep of their competition and climbed three spots up into 5th. The Ballz, led this week by Cliff Barendsen's 496 series, simply couldn't find any answers for Dixie and fall two spots into 7th place. On the final pair of lanes, The Finger Holes continue their chase to the top of the standings by defeating Split It & Hit It 3-1. With Aubrey Moren showing signs of life with a 556 series to lead The F-Holes, the gang looked close to wrapping it all up until Game #3. Todd Way put up the team's highest series at 421 but, overall, the entire team contributed with above-average scores pretty much the entire night to secure their lone victory. The Finger Holes remain in 2nd while Split It slips down one spot into 8th place. The Tournament of Champions now looks like this:Division 1 = Ryan Doll (9), Ian Goetz (6)Division 2 = Phil Schroeder (6), Jonathan Vigliaturo (6)Division 3 = Rob Kaszuba (6), Eric Lynch (6)Division 4 = Michael Smith (7), Mark DeVoe/Dan Imperial (6)Bowlers taking turns making fun of Ian's headband in The 200 Club this week include: Aaron Barber (221), Brian Coe (209), Carl Goetz (205), Ian Goetz (238, 244, 225), John Boren (200), Jonathan Vigliaturo (215), Ken M. Dixie Stampeded

Posted by Ken On September - 16 - 2014ADD COMMENTS

This week saw most teams either remain fixed in the standings or slide. However two teams managed to buck the trend and improve their position in the league. In the matchup between Ballz Out and More Beer, Chelsea on lanes 41 & 42, Each bowler roll either uncharacteristically well or uncharacteristically poorly, and in some cases it was a combination of both. While Scoot rolled his worst series in more than 6 years, Eric Lynch climbed to a 222 by game 3 to lead his team with a 546 series and take #1 Power Ranked bowler honors. This wasn't nearly enough to offset the damage done by Chadwick Andrews and his 492 series (combined with high games by both Bryan Bay and Cliff Barendsen), giving the Ballz a 3-1 triumph over Chelsea. Neither team moved in the standings, however.921+ vs. The Finger Holes was expected to be a very tough battle, but we learned that while Ken M. Wilson can't close a 10th frame to save his life (or health), he's at least apparently the motivator that brings his teams victories. In Ken's absence, 921+ came nowhere close to their namesake as Brian Coe and Kody Karnes co-led the team with 582 series each. The Finger Holes, led by Phil Schroeder's Most Valuable Bowler-earning 539 series (and assisted by high games from Dennis "Pops" Laube and Aubrey Moren), made unusually quick work of the situation and came away with a 3-1 win. 921+ and the F-Holes trade places in the standings. The men of My Three Sons are getting sick and tired of having to calculate handicap after the fact, but that's exactly what they had to do yet again when Dennis Blake made a return visit to Split It & Hit It. Once the furious math was finished, Carl Goetz's 596 series led him and his progeny to a 3-1 victory, while Matt Bunyard let Split It with a 503 series (and a new personal best game of 203). Split It drops 1 spot to 7th, while My Three Sons continues to be the number 1 show this season. Finally, in what is perhaps the biggest upset of the night, dow at 47&48 the yet-to-all-be-seen-at-the-same-time Pin and Tonics trampled all over the Dixie Stampede. With a 558 series, Aaron Barber led the Tonics, while Ryan Doll's 568 was only enough to get the Stampede 1 win. Pin and Tonics climbs 2 spots in the rankings -- the biggest jump of the night -- while Dixie Stampede drops to... dead last?!?!?The Tournament of Champions kicked off tonight, with Ryan Doll winning Division 1 and Carl Goetz taking 2nd. Division 2 was led by Phil Schroeder with Todd Way taking 2nd. Division 3 was devastated by Eric Lynch, with Matt Bunyard taking 2nd. And Division 4 was won by Michael Smith, with Dan Imperial taking 2nd.Bowlers joining or renewing their membership in The 200 Club tonight include: Eric Lynch (222), Kody Karnes (225), Brian Coe (207), Phil Schroeder (204), Jonathan Vigliaturo (213), Carl Goetz (224, 210), Matt Bunyard (203), and Ryan Doll (200).See you next Tuesday!

Holding onto the Reigns

Posted by Ken On September - 9 - 2014ADD COMMENTS

Tuesday night was an historic night in GutterAlley as, combined, the league put up a pretty big overall average of 168 for Week #3. Tentatively, five teams have moved around in the league standings but last season's champs refuse to relinquish their icy grasp on first place despite only two games separating the top four teams. The Tournament of Champions seeding is now complete and that will kick off within next week's action. For a breakdown of what all went on, just keep on reading...The results of the matchup between Split It & Hit It and Pin and Tonics cannot be tallied just yet as one team still needs to post-bowl. We will update the site once they have done so. [Update: Split It forfeit, and Tonics lost all 4 anyway.]With Bill Krejci opting out of this season after having missed the first two weeks, Dixie Stampede replaced him with long-time league roller Jason Carpio in an attempt to make another run at a title. Unfortunately for them they ran into My Three Sons. With Seth Gunderson's 561 series leading the way, The Sons corralled Dixie for the majority of the night to come away with a 3-1 matchup victory and remaining in 1st place. Carpio, making his triumphant return with a team leading 576 series in his debut, led the way for Dixie in the losing effort and tentatively remain in 7th place. What a night for 921+'s ringer Brian Coe. Putting up 9th highest series in league history with his 726, Coe not only led his team to a 4-0 sweep of opponents Ballz Out but also was the biggest factor in the team setting the best 4-man team series since the start of the league back in 1999. Needless to say, Coe also tentatively netted both #1 Power Ranked bowler and Most Valuable Bowler honors with his performance. Chadwick Andrews' 502 series was the tops for the Ballz but it simply couldn't derail the Coe Express. 921+ moves up one spot into 2nd while Ballz Out tentatively drops one spot down into 6th place.Down on lanes 47 & 48, The Finger Holes nearly blanked opponents More Beer, Chelsea in their matchup but ended up 3-1 after a late rally by the opposition. With Aubrey Moren and his 555 series leading the way, The F-Holes secured Games #1 and #2 before a surge by More Beer, Chelsea led by – brace yourself – Scott Murdock's team leading 478 series managed to take Game #3. With the victories, The Finger Holes tentatively climb one spot into 3rd while More Beer spills two spots. The Tournament of Champions seeding is ALMOST complete...but won't be officially tallied until the post-bowling scores are in. Sorry, gang!Bowlers discussing why Carpio wanted Scoot to hump him this week in The 200 Club include: Aubrey Moren (217), Brian Coe (257, 235, 234), Carl Goetz (202), Ian Goetz (205, 200), Jason Carpio (223), John Boren (213, 206), Ken M. Wilson (211, 223, 216), Kody Karnes (236, 269), Ryan Doll (201), and Seth Gunderson (201).See you next Tuesday!

The Second Week Shuffle

Posted by Ken On September - 2 - 2014ADD COMMENTS

As we point out every season, Week #2 is always the most volatile of any given session. Not to disappoint, seven of the league's eight teams swapped places in the league standings in the second week shuffle. Average were all over the place with one person raising his 27 while another person dropped theirs 17. If anyone could accurately predict what was going to happen in Week #2 each season we'd hire them on the spot to forecast all kinds of things. After a slow start last week, former champions Dixie Stampede looked to bounce back against opponents More Beer, Chelsea. Things didn't quite work out their way as Chelsea's Eric Lynch put up a 485 series to lead his team to a 3-1 matchup victory and propelled the team into 2nd place. Ryan Doll, putting up the highest series for Dixie, led the way in the losing effort with his 583 and find themselves in 7th place. On lanes 43 & 44, Matt Bunyard of Split It & Hit It put on a clinic against 921+. Throwing his new personal best in Game #2, he followed it up with an even better personal best – narrowly missing his first 200 game with his 198 – to trounce the competition with his all-time high series of 543 and raising his average 27 pins. Split It moved up one spot into 6th place. 921+, led once again by Kody Karnes this week with his 599 series, fall two spots into 3rd place. Bunyard was easily this week's #1 Power Ranked bowler. After sandbagging didn't pay off last week, Phil Schroeder of The Finger Holes decided to roll for real against Pin and Tonics and added 3-1 to their record. His team leading 535 series warranted Most Valuable Bowler honors and pushed his team up two spots into 4th place. Pin and Tonics, led this week by Aaron Barber's 545 series, remain in 8th place. The final matchup of the night pitted reigning champs My Three Sons against Ballz Out in the loudest battle across all 48 lanes. After narrowly dropping Game #1, the Sons stormed back thanks to Carl Goetz and his 588 series to walk away with a 3-1 win and now sit atop the standings in 1st place. Ballz Out, led by Cliff Barendsen's 535 series, roll one spot down into 5th place. The Tournament of Champions is starting to take shape but won't officially seed people until the end of next week.Bowlers holding the door for Bunyard but not quite letting him enter the The 200 Club include: Brian Coe (254), Carl Goetz (203), Cliff Barendsen (200), Ian Goetz (238), John Boren (221), Ken M. Wilson (201), Kody Karnes (235), and Ryan Doll (215, 204). See you next Tuesday!

Big Beginnings

Posted by Ken On August - 26 - 2014ADD COMMENTS

The very first night of our 30th season of GutterAlley action is now in the books and the league split it right down the middle with four teams coming away with records of 3-1 while the other half took it on the chin 1-3. Three rookies made their debut – along with one rookie sub – Tuesday night so we'd like to extend a warm welcome to Brian Coe, Dan Imperial, Todd Way (officially a full-time bowler this season!), and sub Spencer Branham. Welcome the league, gentlemen! In the first match up of the night, reigning champions My Three Sons put it to opponents The Finger Holes in a 3-1 matchup victory proving that sandbagging just doesn't work. Putting up the highest series for the Sons was pre-bowling Carl Goetz and his 542 series. Aubrey Moren provided the most fire power for The F-Holes with his 543 but it simply wasn't enough to earn more than one victory. My Three Sons start their title defense in 2nd, due to total pins, while The Finger Holes debut in 6th place. With two of their bowlers out in Vegas, Pin and Tonics – led by Jake Parrott's 424 series – doubled down to take Game #1. Lady luck changed after that as Ballz Out took control the rest of the way to end the night with three out of four victories. Cliff Barendsen led the charge with his 479 series to push his team into 4th while P&T find themselves starting out in 7th place.Following the same formula as above, Split It & Hit It came out firing behind Todd Way's 527 debut to secure Game #1 before More Beer, Chelsea served them the rest of the night en route to a 3-1 victory. Anchor Eric Lynch's 462 series was the tops for More Beer, tapping their first week in 3rd while Split It starts out in 8th place.Narrowly missing a sweep, the brashly named 921+ almost reached their goal on the initial night against opponents Dixie Stampede by rolling the second highest team game in league history in Game #3 (missing the record by a mere three pins) to take the night 3-1 and landing in 1st place. Ryan Doll put up the best series for Dixie – a 596 – but only managed a single win. Dixie Stampede begins their stampede in 5th place. 921+'s Kody Karnes was this week's #1 Power Ranked bowler. As it sometimes happens, no one qualified to be this week's Most Valuable Bowler. The Tournament of Champions will be watching you closely, zeroing in on where you will be placed at the conclusion of Week #3. Bowlers starting their season off with a stop at The 200 Club include: Brian Coe (218, 204), John Boren (268), Ken M. Wilson (222), Kody Karnes (204, 246, 225), and Ryan Doll (226).See you next Tuesday!

Well, the summer is wrapping up and that can mean only two things – winter is coming (eventually) and it's time for another session of GutterAlley Bowling! This will be our 30th season. Amazing. This season will feature three new recruits making their debut this season! A special welcome to rookies Aaron Barber (who some of you met when he subbed one week this past spring), Brian Coe, and Dan Imperial. Abandon hope all ye who debut here, gentlemen! We are also welcoming back Alison Radke after a three-year break. And, technically now a rookie despite having subbed 23 weeks already and subbing more weeks this past season than some of our roster members rolled, Todd Way is now officially joining us as a full-fledged member. Welcome!START DATE: Tuesday, August 26th (aka TODAY) at 6:20PM (league bowling starts at 6:30 after ten minutes of practice)LOCATION: NKC Pro Bowl, 505 East 18th Avenue, North Kansas City, MO 64116. For you new bowlers, you won't be able to miss it as they have painted the building a deep blood red color over the summer. We are again on lanes 41-48 so you're best off parking behind the bowling alley. The rear parking lot is accessible only from the west side of the building from either 18th Ave or Erie St.Anyone that has been in the league pretty much knows everything else that's about to be told but, just in case you are bored and/or need a refresher, here's the GutterAlley 101 so that you know what to expect in our league: Read the rest of this entry »
