The 11th Frame — Week 2, Spring 2016

Posted by ScooterJ February 5, 2016 Spring 2016

This day-late issue of The 11th frame features on everyone's favorite aspect of our league (other than humping Scoot), the Tournament of Champions!INDIVIDUALS:

The Sethception

Seth Gunderson

Chelsie Finger

Andrew Finger

Seth Gunderson is a travelling fool. He travels more than any human being should be subjected to under the terms of the Geneva Convention. His travels have caused him to miss the start of bowling seasons so many times, that the Tournament of Champions actually contains a subroutine called the Sethception Gunderhack. The average each bowler sets during the first three weeks of bowling determines which of the four divisions that bowler will be placed. Without the Sethception, anyone who misses the first three weeks would be disqualified. But that's no fun for anyone, so instead the Gunderhack kicks in and uses the most recent average the absent bowler carried in a past season to determine their placement. This season we already know that Seth will trigger this subroutine. What is unknown is whether the league will still be missing two Fingers this coming Tuesday, triggering them to use this backup method, or if Andrew and Chelsie will finally make their debut.

FUN STUFF:

Speaking of the Tournament...
After this Tuesday, all the divisions will be set, and tournament play will begin the following week! Let's take a look at how it's all coming together.Division 1 Is all but certain to be home to Carl, Kody, Aaron, John, and Seth. According to the Predictions, Andrew Finger will set a 177 average if he is here on Tuesday. That is unlikely, however, as it would be the third lowest series in his career with us. Last season he came out of the gate with a 196 average and maintained 185 or higher all season long. If he comes out strong again this season, or even if the GunderHack kicks in for him, he will knock Russell, Michael G, or Dennis B into Division 2.Division 2 remains in flux, as each of the top four bowlers (Michael M, Phil, Aubrey, and Jonathan) have it in them to roll well enough this week to punch their way into Division 1. Meanwhile, either Scott or Dennis L. can be overtaken by Dustin or Sean M from Division 3. Only Bob and Angela seem to be safe in their Division 2 roost.Division 3 is only slightly more stable, with Freda, Tim, and Zach secure in their positions. Both Dustin and Sean M. have an outside chance of moving to Division 2. The return of Chelsie (either in person or via Gunderhack) will disrupt this division as she should land right in the center of it. Two bowlers currently in this division will shift to Division 4 no matter what, most likely it will be two of Michelle S, Angie, or Michael S.Division 4 is pretty much set other than the fact that two bowlers from Division 3 will be joining them. However, Amber has a very good chance of shifting past those new members and joining Division 3. Michelle T would also have a marginal chance of a division change, but she will be absent this week so her position is set.
