Midterms Already?

Posted by ScooterJ October 13, 2015 Fall 2015, Week 7 View Score Sheets

It hardly seems possible, but the mid-season position round is already upon us! Tonight's games set the stage for next week, and one of our long-time bowlers reached a long-sought-after milestone. And, for the first time all season, no one was absent!First up, on lanes 41 & 42: Holy Sandbaggers, Batman! battled for position against Split It & Hit It. Split It seemed poised to work their way up the standings under the leadership of Dennis Blake and his 490 series. However Aubrey Moren would have nothing to do with it and rolled a 574 series to derail Split It's plans. The Sandbaggers climb 1 spot in the standings to 6th place, while Split It & Hit It sinks 2 spots to 5th. These two teams will face each other again next week.

For years, Ken M. Wilson had led the race for the most 600 series in league history. However he abruptly quit the league lasts season just one 600 series shy of 100, creating an a opportunity for others to pass him up. Tonight, Carl Goetz met the challenge, rolling a 645 series to become the first bowler in league history to reach 100 600+ career series.

Carl, looking all coy, celebrates his 100th 600 series.

This accomplishment, however, was much to the chagrin of Stephen Hawking's Dance Club who lost the dance-off with Salt Water Taffy. Russell Bingham put on his best moves with a 542 series, but was knocked to the floor by Carl every time. Stephen Hawking' remains in 2nd place, while Salt Water Taffy remains in 1st. These two teams will do-si-do again next week.

On lanes 45 & 46: Hold My Beer, Watch This was in a bit of a pickle. Dan Imperial took a new job and moved to Chicago during our break, and was replaced by Jake Parrott. The dilemma was that Jake set too high of an average when he subbed at the beginning of this season. Luckily, Jake's re-debut came during the same week Hold My Beer faced the blind team. Problem solved, all the team had to do was to bowl well enough to let Jake suck just a little. Leading the team with a 684 series, Kody Karnes and the rest of the team did their parts. However, in game 3, Aaron Barber forgot about the plan, allowing the blind team a chance to whoop them with their canes. 3 wins was enough, however, to move Hold My Beer up 1 spot to 4th.

Finally, down on lanes 47 & 48: It's A Trap! rolled some rather close games against 404: Team Name Not Found. Led by Andrew Finger and his 522 series, It's A Trap! only managed 1 win against Team Name Not Found despite all of the gamed being decided in the final frame. This was largely due to the MVB performance of Sean Miller, coupled with Scott Murdock (finally remembering he likes bowling after a two-week slump) leading Not Found with a 523 series. It's A Trap! drops back to 7th place, while 404: Team Name Not Found moves up 1 spots to 3rd place.

This week in Tournament of Champions, Kody Karnes cleaned up Division 1 but still trails the Goetz boys for points. Russell Bingham led Division 2 and climbed into 2nd place. Matt O'Dell leapfrogged into 1st place in Division 3, and Meghan Cummings swept her way into 2nd place in Division 4.Bowlers preparing for the position round in The 200 Club this week include: Aubrey Moren (211), Carl Goetz (238,236), Ian Goetz (219), and Kody Karnes (245,230,209)Next Tuesday is the position round. Salt Water Taffy will meet Stephen Hawking's Dance Club again. Taffy is safely in first, Hawking could remain in 2nd or drop as far as 4th. On the next pair of lanes 404: Team Name Not Found spars with Hold My Beer, Watch This. Not Found can climb as high as 2nd or drop as low as 5th; Hold My Beer is in the same boat. Split It & Hit It will rematch Holy Sandbaggers, Batman!. Split It also has the capability to reach 2nd, but could drop to 6th; Sandbaggers can reach 4th or drop to 7th. Finally, It's A Trap! gets the blind team, but because of the way the ties work out can't get higher than 6th this next week.

  FROM THE GUTTER (GUTTER QUOTE)
"It was horrible. They have such strange traditions in Kansas City. Did you know that, in bowling, they celebrate three strikes in a row by pressing their genitals all over the sexiest person in the league? Now don't get me wrong, that wasn’t the problem, the actual problem was that I was only the second hottest. My envy was tearing me apart… I had to get out of there.”

Dan Imperial, explaining to his Chicago friends why he had to move back.
