The Spring 2014 season – our 29th! – officially got underway Tuesday night and with it came some personal bests right out the gate, but we'll get to those in the recap. This go around we have a full cast of 32 bowlers across eight teams in what may be one of the most even playing fields we've seen in quite some time. Three new rookies made their debuts so a big welcome goes out to (from left to right) Bryan Bay, Josh Robison, and Michael Gordon.
In the first matchup of the night, 3/4ths of last season's championship team – Bowltron – set out to begin their season strongly but quickly found their mouths on some Schwetty Balls. With anchor Bob Brunker's 499 series (really?) leading the way and this week's Most Valuable Bowler performance out of Angela Bradford, Schwetty found enough fire power to take a 3-1 matchup victory to begin their season in 4th place. Bowltron, who was led by new father Ryan Doll and his 513 series, quickly find themselves down in the count in 6th place. Down a pair on Lanes 43 & 44, Split It & Hit It's anchor Dennis Blake started his night off with his career high game – hoisting a commanding 269 and ending the night with a team leading 621 series. Unfortunately, the first game is the only one they won after doing battle with the team that ended up in 1st place this week...Mark It Zero. Led by powerhouse this week's #1 Power Ranked bowler Kody Karnes and his 688 series, Zero took a 3-1 win and the most total pins in the league to start their season atop the league standings. Split It, at 1-3, start out in 5th place. True to form, The Finger Holes began their season quietly (sandbagging?), save for an impressive start out of anchor Aubrey Moren – against their competition. Moren, who begins his season with a 210 average behind his 630 series, propelled the F-Holes to a 3-1 matchup win over opponents Twerking Balls. Last seen in the Fall 2012 season, Teresa Deterding returned to lead the Twerks with a 440 series in the losing effort. With their wins, the F-Holes start their run in 3rd while Twerking Balls shakes their stuff in 7th place. The last matchup of the night featured jokesters Pinterest doing battle against UpgrayeDD. Standing in for the absent Seth Gunderson, substitute bowler Carl Goetz led the Pins with a 659 series almost certainly dooming himself for any future appearances as a sub. Coupled with an impressive career high game out of Andy McLeod (a 225!), Pinterest put a 3-1 beatdown on their opponents. UpgrayeDD, led by rookie Josh Robison and his 435 series, secured a lone win in Game #3 to avoid being blanked. Pinterest starts out in 2nd while UpgrayeDD debuts in 8th place. The Tournament of Champions has not yet begun this season. As most of you know, whatever your average is at the end of the initial three weeks of the season determines your seed so just keep plugging away.Bowlers starting off this session with a trip to the The 200 Club include: Andy McLeod (225), Aubrey Moren (236, 209), Carl Goetz (209, 234, 216), Dennis Blake (269), Ken M. Wilson (224), and Kody Karnes (221, 256, 211).See you next Tuesday!
