The twelfth installment of "The 11th Frame" features some interesting nuggets from our Top 25s collection, covering the accolades (and disappointments) of our current and not so-current league rollers. As mentioned already in this week's write-up – Dennis Blake was this week's #1 Power Ranked Bowler and knocked the Dragon Balls off their 1st place roost while Anita Osthoff parlayed her MVB performance to push her team to a tie for the best record in the league. Wondering what else happened that you probably didn't know about? Check this out:INDIVIDUALS:
Dennis bested his best | |
Dennis Blake |
The Spring 2013 season has witnessed some of the highest series ever thrown in our league's history. Looking a little deeper and we see that – so far – seven returning veterans have rolled their career bests over the past 12 weeks. While a few of of these series have been small improvements, others have been huge. Dennis Blake's 644 series ranks him at #7 on the Top 25 Biggest Career High Series Improvements. Now THAT'S improvement. |
Doll pumps and dumps | |
Ryan Doll |
It's not all that often that someone puts up scores vastly different enough to qualify for a spot on the Top 50 Largest Swings In-Between Games. Anymore, someone has to roll at least 101 pins above or below their previous game. This stat didn't stop Ryan Doll Tuesday night. With his embarrassingly low first game, he followed it up with the best game of his career – a 278 – which places him at 7th place with his +121 pin improvement. However, that wasn't enough for our baldest Hall of Fame nominee. Oh no. He then followed that up with a below-average game that landed him in the 14th spot on the same list with his -113 pin swing. Way to be consistent, Doll! |
Sabrina's bullseye | |
Sabrina Gray |
With rare exception (the first three games of each season), every game you've ever rolled in league has you shooting against your average. Roll over and you're a hero, roll under and you better hope your teammates can pick you up...but hit it exactly and you've done just what you needed to do. Ninety-nine percent of the time, if not 100%, people rarely hit it on the nose. Sabrina Gray does...and did, again, Tuesday night. That's why you can find her moving up one spot on the Top 25 Bowlers to Roll Their Averages Exactly with her Game #3 bullseye. These dead-on scores are expected, after all, considering that she's the 7th most consistent bowler in league history. |
TEAMS:
Keep on Totalin' |
With this being the best season in our league's 13+ year history, we're expecting at least a couple of teams to make their way onto our latest team list – the Top 25 Best Team Total Pins (4-per). At this point in time, it takes a combined 32K over the course of our 16-week sessions to break onto the list. Currently, half the league is on pace to reach that mark with over 24,000 pins already – Murder, He Wrote (24,187), Will Strike if Provoked (24,747), Dragon Balls (24,783) and Snakes on a Lane (28,559). With four weeks left, the race is on. |
It's just a matter of playing Hi-Lo |
Every season, our teams are comprised of a motley assortment of bowlers. We have everything from cagey veterans to new recruits, and the heavy hitters to the handicappers. It was that last group that piqued our interest this past week and we wondered which teams have had the wildest swing of averages. So we put together the Top 25 Teams with the Widest Range of Averages to get our answer. Two teams this season – Brunk Enough to Dowl and Ballz Out – have made the list at 1st and 7th, respectively. |
ODDITIES & STRAIGHT UP NUMBERS:
Scoot rolls his 1,000th |
Last week, Scott "Scooter J" Murdock rolled his 1,000th recorded game in our league. He – along with #1 Dennis "Pops" Laube – are the only people that have crested that mark in our Top 25 Most Prolific Bowlers in GutterAlley's history. Scoot's score? 168. We decided to look back and see what Pops rolled on his 1,000th game as well. Has a new tradition been started? Pops, too, shot a 168. Ken is the next person scheduled to break the 1,000 mark (next season). Is a 168 in his future? We shall see. |
