Welcome to the halfway point of the thrilling Fall 2023 bowling season! Week 8 brought us some fierce competition, with teams rising and falling like pins on the lanes. And while the action was intense, it was the exceptional performances that stole the spotlight. But the biggest twist is likely the first-place lead change at the last moment of the season's first half!
In a league where female bowlers outnumber the Gideon Bibles remaining in room 426 of the Magnolia Hotel in Omaha, JoAnne Barber emerged as a shining star, effortlessly claiming this week's high game with a remarkable 137, and a series of 384 for the women. Meanwhile, the men had their own standout performer, as Matthew Taylor blazed a trail with a spectacular high game of 257 and an impressive series total of 639.
But let's dive into the juicy details of the matches:
On lanes 1 & 2: It was an intense showdown as Balderdash felt something lacking from DB Lenz a Hand. Something missing that would normally touch their souls... and their nipples. Because of this emptiness, Matthew Taylor, assisted by #1 Power-Ranked Chris Windham, only managed to split the series despite his above-average 639 series. (Eventually the absent Jeremy Varnell arrived, filling the void and lifting their spirits.) Meanwhile, Doug Lenz stepped up with a solid 438 series to help the Handlers match the Balds in wins. Rejuvenated by the arrival of Varnell into their hearts and areolas, Balderdash's third game was enough for them soar to the top, claiming 1st place, while DB Handlers found themselves slipping to 6th.
Lanes 3 & 4: The Vag Vigs Eras Tour 2023 faced off against Glory Bowl, and although Aaron Barber's formidable 570 series provided some much-needed firepower, they could only secure a single win against the mighty G-Holers. Brett Affolter, with a commendable 489 series, guided the G-Holers to victory, supported by Most Valuable Bowler Carl Mueller. Vigs Eras Tour 2023 dipped to 2nd place courtesy of total pins, while the G-Holers proudly moved up to 5th.
Down on lanes 5 & 6: The Sun Dolphins locked horns blowholes onto various compatible body parts of √-1, and while an initially unstoppable Scott Thompson fueled the Dolphins with his above-average 491 series, it resulted in just one win against the imaginative Imaginary Number. On the other side, Dustin Schmeltz's better-than-normal 544 series inspired Imaginary Number to secure the match with 3 wins, witha nod to #1 Head-to-Head bowler Scott Murdock. Sun Dolphins maintained their position in 4th place, while Imaginary Number remained steady in 3rd.
And let's not forget the bowlers who certainly deserved to have all their drinks comped tonight at The 200 Club, such as: Aaron Barber (213), Dustin Schmeltz (233), Matthew Taylor (215,257), and Scott Thompson (213)
In this week's Tournament of Champions brackets: Aaron Barber decimated Division 1, while nobody claimed victory in Division 2, and in fact we aren't even going to talk about Division 2 as it was a complete embarassment. Carl Mueller had his way with Division 3, and Brian Schaben swept Division 4. In terms of overall points: Aaron Barber reigns over Division 1; Ben Spencer dominates Division 2; Nicholas Knight tops Division 3; and Chris Lenz and JC Cox call the shots in Division 4 in a tie.
The Fall 2023 season is halfway through, and if this week's action is any indicator, we're in for an electrifying second half. Stay tuned for more strikes, spares, splits, gutters, beer spills, farts, and unforgettable titty-twisters on the lanes!
NEXT WEEK:
- First, on lanes 1&2, 4th-place Sun Dolphins (hcp 48) will test their mettle against 5th-place Glory Bowl. Dolphins are expected to perform well, yet still manage to lose the series but avoid getting swept; while the G-Holers are forecast to hold steady as they enjoy their victories.
- Moving to lanes 3&4, 3rd-place √-1 will roll against 6th-place DB Lenz a Hand (hcp 16). Imaginary Number might perform well and sweep the series; while DB Handlers ought to drop their average a bit while they endure a rough night.
- Finally, on lanes 5&6, 2nd-place Vigs Eras Tour 2023 (hcp 26) will chill with 1st-place Balderdash. The Vigs Tour crew is predicted to roll decently and sweep the series; while Bald Boys are anticipated to hold steady as they endure a rough night.
*(Remember, the predicted results above are based on mathematical extrapolations and can be changed by all sorts of factors. If you don't like how your team's results are predicted, you and your teammates have the power to prove the math wrong!)
