Great Scott!!!

Posted by ScooterJ September 20, 2022 Fall 2022, Week 5 View Score Sheets

The fifth week saw one team climb in the standings, while one team slipped. One bowler rolled a new personal best game, while another staged a surprise attack to claim two of this week's weekly awards. JoAnne Barber picked up this week's high game (148) and series (406) for the women. As for the men, Ian Goetz snagged this week's high game with a 206, and high series was earned by Dennis Walling with a 591. Read on for all the rest of the details!

First up, on lanes 1 & 2: Despite both having rolled for various incarnations of "Seth's team" for many years, this was the very first time that Ian Goetz and Nick Kinney both bowled together on the same team at the same time. In what amounted more or less to which tyeam could roll below average less, Baby Beardo outperformed AJ's Minions. With the strength of Nick Kinney with his below-average 530 series, the Beardettes collected 3 wins against the minions. Simultaneously, AJ Hofmann with his slightly-off 479 series showed off for the minions despite his team notching only a single win. Baby Beardo remains in 1st place, while the minions remain in 3rd.

On lanes 3 & 4: Glory Bowl became the second consecutive team to feel the power of the newly energized Sun Dolphins. Even though highlighted by the skills of Kent Harms with his 466 series, the Glorious accomplished only 1 win against the dolphins. Among the Dolphins, Ryan Sisco with his better-than-normal 509 series inspired the dolphins (along with kudos to a great performance by #1 Power-Ranked and Most Valuable Bowler Ray Scott) as his team took the match with 3 wins. Glory Bowl drops 1 spot in the standings to 6th place, while the dolphins move up 1 spot to 5th.

Finally, down on lanes 5 & 6: I Can't Believe It's Not Gutter couldn't stop undressing with their eyes the members of Balderdash, and who could blame them? Blessed by James Tott with his above-average 549 series, the nonbelievers split the series with the balder dashers. #1 Head-to-Head Dennis Walling and his better-than-normal 591 series emboldened the balder dashers as they matched their opponent in wins. I Can't Believe It's Not Gutter remains in 2nd place, while the balder dashers remain in 4th.

Bowlers sneaking into The 200 Club include: Dennis Walling (201) and Ian Goetz (206)

A new personal high game was set tonight by Collin Lavery (180, previous best 165).

In this week's Tournament of Champions brackets: Dennis Walling whipped Division 1, while Michael Gordon rolled his ass to the top of Division 2. Jeremy Varnell swept Division 3, and Ray Scott cleaned up Division 4. In terms of overall points: Nick Kinney runs the show in Division 1; James Tott and Michael Gordon top Division 2 in a tie; Ryan Sisco and Jeremy Varnell are both in the driver's seat (on each other's laps?) in Division 3 in a tie; and Ray Scott holds the reins in Division 4.

NEXT WEEK:

  • First, on lanes 1&2, 5th-place Sun Dolphins (hcp 137) will battle 4th-place Balderdash. The dolphins are expected to perform well, yet still manage to get swept; while the balder dashers are forecast to hold steady as they rack up a sweep.
  • Moving to lanes 3&4, 2nd-place I Can't Believe It's Not Gutter (hcp 36) will throw some gutter balls with 3rd-place AJ's Minions. The nonbelievers might maintain their current strength as they lose the series but avoid getting swept; while the minions ought to hold steady as they enjoy their victories.
  • Finally, on lanes 5&6, 1st-place Baby Beardo will tussle with 6th-place Glory Bowl (hcp 87). The Beardettes are predicted to maintain their current strength as they sweep the series; while the Glorious are anticipated to hold steady as they endure a rough night.

*(Remember, the predicted results above are based on mathematical extrapolations and can be changed by all sorts of factors. If you don't like how your team's results are predicted, you and your teammates have the power to prove the math wrong!)
