Munson’d Redux?

Posted by ScooterJ September 10, 2019 Fall 2019, Week 4 View Score Sheets

The fourth week of Fall 2019 saw three teams climb in the standings, while three teams slipped. Freda Schroeder picked up this week's high game (191) and series (474) for the women. As for the men, Carl Goetz snagged this week's high game with a 243, and high series was earned by Cory Chorpenning with a 622. Meanwhile, the Tournament of Champions also kicked off tonight, beginning of 13 weeks of one-on-one bowling excitement! Read on for all the rest of the details!

First up, on lanes 3 & 4: A well-matched pair of rivals gathered as See you next Tuesday! and Pin Is King 2 did all they could to antagonize each other. With extra motivation generated by Most Valuable Bowler Nick Kinney and his above-average 579 series, Next Tuesday welcomed a clean sweep over Kings. Conversely, Michael Gordon with his better-than-normal 556 series guided Kings despite his team getting swept. See you next Tuesday! leaps 2 spots in the standings to 1st place, while Kings plunge 2 spots to 4th.

In Fall 2005 a team named Munson'd had the worst win-loss record in league history with 6.5-57.5. Is someone making a run at his?

On lanes 5, 6, 11, & 12: Rear Admirals battled both lane malfunctions and BDE. Regardless of the star power of Freda Schroeder with her 474 series, Admirals missed getting swept by BDE by just one pin. On the other half of the score sheet only half the team showed up after Jeremy "I'm too tired to pre-bowl, I'll just leave you with this 195 average that I just achieved" Cline decided he needed a nap. Rob Kaszuba with his 474 series showed off for BDE as his team took the match with 3.5 wins. Rear Admirals drop 1 spot in the standings to 8th place, while BDE jumps 2 spots to 2nd.

On lanes 7 & 8: In a matchup that could almost be considered unfair except that it turned out to be so in the opposite way one might expect, the bad guys of C.I.C.K. Ass 2 attempted to deliver menacing stares toward the charming The James Tott Center for Kids Who Can't Bowl Good and Wanna Learn To Do Other Stuff Too. Despite a show of strength by Cory Chorpenning with his above-average 622 series, CICK got swept by James Tott School for B's. In the meantime, #1 Power Ranked and #1 Head-to-Head James Tott and his dramatic 516 series took charge of James Tott School for B's as they swept the competition. C.I.C.K. Ass 2 plummets 2 spots in the standings to 3rd place, while James Tott School for B's remain in 5th.

Finally, down on lanes 9 & 10: With the Whiles boys absent, Luke Melton was about to leave believing Scared Splitless would have to forfeit. Luckily just as he was heading to the door it was remembered that on a team that has a short roster, Vacancy counts toward the legal lineup so Luke could actually bowl alone after all and have it count. Reinforced by Conor Clarke with his 452 series, Bowl Movements began by crapping two wins all ovr Mr. Melton. But then Luke used the force, and with his 387 series came back to singlehandedly win game 3 and series as well. Bowl Movements climb 1 spot in the standings to 7th place, while Splitless remain in 6th.

Bowlers who crashed the party at The 200 Club include: Aaron Barber (212), Carl Goetz (201,243), Cory Chorpenning (232,221), Ken M. Wilson (221), and Nick Kinney (203,203)

In this week's Tournament of Champions brackets: Michael Gordon swept Division 1, while Seth Gunderson trounced Division 2. James Tott crushed Division 3, and Jared Nuhn conquered Division 4. In terms of overall points: Michael Gordon tops Division 1; Seth Gunderson leads Division 2; James Tott dominates Division 3; and Jared Nuhn reigns over Division 4.

(The "Bowling Thru Time" recap will be posted in this space Wednesday evening.)

NEXT WEEK:

  • First, on lanes 3&4, 8th-place Rear Admirals (hcp 205) will test their mettle against 3rd-place C.I.C.K. Ass 2. Admirals are expected to maintain their current strength as they lose the series but avoid getting swept; while CICK is forecast to drop their average a bit even as they enjoy their victories.
  • Moving to lanes 5&6, 6th-place Scared Splitless (estimated hcp 154) will socialize with 4th-place Pin Is King 2. Splitless might perform well, yet still manage to get swept; while Kings ought to drop their average a bit even as they rack up a sweep.
  • Then, over on lanes 7&8, 1st-place See you next Tuesday! will chill with 7th-place Bowl Movements (hcp 165). Next Tuesday will likely have a bit of an off night, yet still manage to win the series; while Movements will probably hold steady as they avoid getting swept.
  • Finally, on lanes 9&10, 5th-place The James Tott Center for Kids Who Can't Bowl Good and Wanna Learn To Do Other Stuff Too (hcp 28) will share a couple of pitchers with 2nd-place BDE. James Tott School for B's are predicted to maintain their current strength as they lose the series but avoid getting swept; while BDE is anticipated to hold steady as they enjoy their victories.

*(Remember, the predicted results above are based on mathematical extrapolations and can be changed by all sorts of factors. If you don't like how your team's results are predicted, you and your teammates have the power to prove the math wrong!)
