While the standings didn't change at all tonight, quite a lot actually happened. Before we get into the big story of the night, we will take a moment to remember some of the other people who accomplished things tonight. Monica Hufford picked up this week's high game (188) and series (474) for the women. As for the men, Dennis Walling snagged this week's high game with a score that we'll get to in a moment. High series was earned by Kody Karnes with a 699. Read on for all the rest of the details!
First up, on lanes 3 & 4: HOF Sandwich was chewed up and spat out by Sit Down, Be Humbowl. Though flavored by #1 Power Ranked and #1 Head-to-Head Kody Karnes and his above-average 699 series, the Sandwich accomplished only 1 win against Humbowl. On the other lane, Brian Byfield with his better-than-normal 503 series found it hard to be Humbowl as his team took the match with 3 stunning wins. Despite these hard-fought victories, HOF Sandwich remains in 3rd place, while Humbowl remains in 8th.
A few weeks ago, Mary Janes Last Frame was all but written off. But then they suddenly started a comeback that continued this week. With what was supposed to be closely-matched team strength on lanes 5-6, Mary Janes Last Frame had no problem whatsoever with simply nuking the Splitbowl Countries. Charging into the fray behind Dennis Walling with his remarkable 688 series, with kudos to Most Valuable Bowler AJ Hofmann, Mary Jane garnered a clean sweep over Splitbowl. Simultaneously, a pre-bowled Matthew Taylor with his below-average 489 series championed Splitbowl from afar despite his team getting swept. Mary Janes Last Frame remains in 4th place JUST BARELY, while Splitbowl remains in 2nd ALSO JUST BARELY.
Oh, did we forget to mention something?
That's right! Dennis Walling became the our latest member of The 300 Club! He joins good company with David Codding and Brian Coe. Congratulations, Dennis! (Sorry that it still wasn't enough to earn you MVB, #1 Power Ranked, or #1 Head-to-Head.)
On lanes 7 & 8: A well-matched pair of rivals gathered as PBR Me, ASAP found their liquor license revoked by Three Strikes and a Spare. Despite the glimmer of hope from the skills of Jeremy Varnell with his 428 series, PBR accomplished only 1 win against Three Strikes. Moving on to the challengers, Monica Hufford with her 474 series propped up Three Strikes as her team took the match with 3 wins. PBR Me, ASAP remains in 5th place, while Three Strikes remain in 7th.
Finally, down on lanes 9 & 10: In a fairly closely-matched lineup Holy Sandbaggers, Batman! made use of voodoo dolls resembling each member of WITNESS!!!. Showcasing sub Carl Goetz with his above-average 575 series, the Sandbaggers split the series with Witness!!!. While that was going down, Aaron Barber with his fledgling mustache and 603 series called the shots for Witness!!! as they matched their opponent in wins. Holy Sandbaggers, Batman! remains in 6th place, while Witness!!! remains in 1st.
We have only two more normal weeks before the Championship Round, and while nobody moved in the standings, the gap between 2nd, 3rd, and 4th places has tightened substantially. Who ends up facing Witness!!! for the final round is anybody's guess at this point!
Bowlers who lied to their significant other claiming bowling was running long then went out for after-bowling drinks at The 200 Club include: Aaron Barber (200,220), Bob Brunker (202), Brian Byfield (200), Brian Orrick (212), Carl Goetz (233), Dennis Walling (203,300), Kody Karnes (247,256), Michael Mead (212,204), and Nick Kinney (212)
A new personal high game was set tonight by Dennis Walling (300, previous best 245). In addition, a new personal best series was rolled by Dennis Walling (688, previous best 638).
Adding to the excitement, the 300 rolled by Dennis Walling is this season's new high game for men and I'm afraid that's it for that category.
DENNIS WALLING TIED THE HIGHEST-POSSIBLE ALL-TIME HIGH GAME WITH HIS 300!
In this week's Tournament of Champions brackets: Michael Mead had his way with Division 1, while nobody claimed victory in Division 2 (though Dennis Laube came closest). AJ Hofmann creamed Division 3, and Jeremy Varnell triumphed over his enemies in Division 4. In terms of overall points: Aubrey Moren dominates Division 1; Nick Kinney is in the driver's seat in Division 2; Freda Schroeder tops Division 3; and Emily Nicolet leads Division 4.
NEXT WEEK:
- First, on lanes 3&4, 5th-place PBR Me, ASAP (hcp 164) will challenge 1st-place WITNESS!!!. PBR is expected to roll a little low and get swept; while Witness!!! is forecast to drop their average a bit even as they rack up a sweep.
- Moving to lanes 5&6, 7th-place Three Strikes and a Spare (hcp 112) will face 6th-place Holy Sandbaggers, Batman!. Three Strikes might maintain their current strength as they lose the series but avoid getting swept; while the Sandbaggers ought to hold steady as they enjoy their victories.
- Then, over on lanes 7&8, 8th-place Sit Down, Be Humbowl (hcp 92) will tussle with 4th-place Mary Janes Last Frame. Humbowl will likely roll decently, yet still manage to get swept; while Mary Jane will probably hold steady as they rack up a sweep.
- Finally, on lanes 9&10, 2nd-place Splitbowl Countries (hcp 25) will chill with 3rd-place HOF Sandwich. Splitbowl is predicted to roll a little low and get swept; while the Sandwich is anticipated to drop their average a bit even as they rack up a sweep.
*(Remember, the predicted results above are based on mathematical extrapolations and can be changed by all sorts of factors. If you don't like how your team's results are predicted, you and your teammates have the power to prove the math wrong!)
