Spring 2017 Recap

35 seasons of bowling are now behind us, and while this season may not have set a lot of records, it still has a few firsts and a lot of fun moments. And the surprise come-from-behind championship win by Omaha Hambone marks the first title win in quite some time that didn't come from ne of the long-time dynasties.

They speak softly, but they carry big strikes

Never break a growler in the bowling alley unless you want $100 of your team's prize money confiscated for cleaning fees!
(Luckily for Michael Gordon, this was a prank and we gave him his money before he launched a tirade at the counter.)

SEASON INDIVIDUAL AWARDS:

Women's High Series Scratch: Freda Schroeder (514)
Women's High Game Scratch: Abby Kearns (176)
Women's High Series Handicap: Chantal Jacot (612)
Women's High Game Handicap: Savi Benfer (215)

Men's High Series Scratch: Carl Goetz (739)
Men's High Game Scratch: Ken Wilson (276)
Men's High Series Handicap: Michael Mead (715)
Men's High Game Handicap: Dustin Schmeltz (286)

Aaron Barber is #1 Power ranked bowler, Ken Wilson is runner up.

Frankee’s Uncles is #1 Power ranked team, Omaha Hambone is runner up.

Head to Head: Phil Schroeder would have won 62.456% of all possible one-on-one matchups this season, Carl Goetz comes in second with 62.413%

PEOPLE'S CHOICE AWARDS

Rookie of the Season
(Which first year bowler did the most for his or her team in their initial outing?)

Seth Gunderson Captain of the Season
(Which team captain provided the most leadership, dedication, and inspiration to their team?)

  • Runner Up: Jonathan Vigliaturo
  • Winner: Aaron Barber

Carl Goetz Defensive Bowler of the Season
Which player with an average of 150 or above proved to be the strongest finisher in crucial tenth frame situations?

  • Runner Up: Carl Goetz
  • Winner: Michael Mead

Underdog of the Season
Bowler with an average under 150 who was the biggest spark for their team.

  • Runner Up: JoAnne Gordon
  • Winner: Chantal Jacot

Bob Brunker/Rob Kaszuba Sportsmanship Award
This award should go to the one male bowler who continually shows the best example of good sportsmanship throughout the entire season.

  • Runner Up: Bob Brunker
  • Winner: Carl Goetz

Emily Podhajsky Sportsmanship Award
This award should go to the one female bowler who continually shows the best example of good sportsmanship throughout the entire season.

  • Runner Up: Abby Kearns
  • Winner: Chantal Jacot

Pat Searcy 'Life of the Party' Award
Named for a man whose exuberant personality made bowling nights more fun for all those around him. Given to the person who livens up Tuesday nights and brings a smile to all our faces.

Favorite Team to Roll Against

  • Runner Up: Ebowla
  • Winner: Omaha Hambone

Most Feared Team to Roll Against

  • Runner Up: Omaha Hambone
  • Winner: Frankee's Uncles

Scooter J. Murdock “Get ‘r Done” Award:
AJ Hofmann, for directly recruiting 5 of this season’s rookies + one more indirectly. (Runner up: Aaron Barber for directly and indirectly recruiting 4 of this season’s bowlers.) Combined, these two’s recruits were just shy of a third of the league.

Honorable Mention: Zach Cross – for putting his sick family first last week even though he was in a very good position to win the ToC.

James Tott fulfilled a lifelong dream by rolling a strike while holding a beer. But, since it was a 9-pin-tap strike, he still feels hollow inside.

Most Valuable Bowler – People’s Choice
Who did everyone think did the most for their team?

  • Runner Up: Aaron Barber
  • Winner: Michael Mead

Actual MVB, Runner Up:

  • Dustin Schemltz, personally responsible for 10 of his team's wins

Actual MVB, For Real:

  • Dan Crosby, personally responsible for 8 of his team’s wins.

Hall of Fame: John Boren became the 11th inductee.


P&P Pillar Award: Phil Schroeder and Dennis Laube became the first inductees.
