Beware Of Doug

Posted by ScooterJ November 14, 2017 Fall 2017, Week 13 View Score Sheets

There was some pretty freaking amazing rolling tonight. JoAnne Gordon rolled a new personal best series (405) and new high game (157). Michael Smith rolled a new personal best series (464) and tied his personal high game of 192. Ben Spencer broke his previous best game with a 199. Dennis Blake and Aubrey Moren were both on fire. Nick Kinney went insane with a 268.

But then there's sub / 5th-man Doug Bonney did tonight. While via technicality of the league rules he will likely end the season just shy of rolling enough games to qualify for the special cash awards, tonight Doug set the new league high series scratch with a 693, just barely missing out on being out first 700 series of the season. Whether he comes back affiliated with the same team or as a free-agent, we certainly hope to see more of Doug in Spring 2018 as a full-time bowler!

But enough about Doug and the other shining stars mentioned above. What else happened tonight?

First up, on lanes 1 & 2: Roll, Drink, Repeat faced off against The Alt-Left, with ugly results for them. The Alt-Left secured a clean sweep behind a 484 series by Left John Boren (and a new personal-best left-handed 168 by Lefty Carl Goetz). Sean Simmons and his team-leading 560 series, could not fend off The Alt-Left's attack. Roll, Drink, Repeat drops 1 spot in the standings to 7th place, while The Alt-Left jumps 2 spots to 3rd.

On lanes 3 & 4: Bowl Yer Ballz Off deliberately ate cheese sticks in front of Split It & Hit It. It backfired. Led by Chadwick Andrews and his 473 series, Bowl Yer Ballz Off managed only 1 win against Split It & Hit It. Meanwhile, Dennis Blake's 565 series and Michael Smith's MVB performance helped Split It splat out 3 wins. Bowl Yer Ballz Off remains in 8th place, while Split It & Hit It remains in 9th.

On lanes 5 & 6: Mustache Cash Stash had a delightful time with Holy Sandbaggers, Batman!. Led by Michael Mead and his 548 series, Mustache Cash Stash stashed away just 1 win against Holy Sandbaggers, Batman!. Meanwhile, led by Aubrey Moren and his 678 series, Holy Sandbaggers, Batman! bagged 3 wins. Mustache Cash Stash drops 1 spot in the standings to 4th place, while Holy Sandbaggers, Batman! remains in 1st.

On lanes 7 & 8: DB's Rusty Nuts couldn't stop undressing with their eyes (or grabbing and squeezing) the members of NotContra. Led by Josh Rothermel and his 421 series, DB's Rusty Nuts got swept by NotContra. Powered by Nick Kinney and his 630 series, NotContra posted a clean sweep. DB's Rusty Nuts remains in 10th place, while NotContra remains in 2nd and closes the gap for first-place to just a 1-game margin.

With a score of 900 exactly, in game 2 NotContra became the first team to hit a 900+ scratch score this season.

By the way, NotContra rolled a 900 series in game 2, the first 900+ by a team this season. This essentially means three team members rolled perfect games while one shat out gutters the entire game. When asked who that was, all fingers pointed at JV.

Finally, down on lanes 9 & 10: Brooklyn Strikers had a fateful rendezvous with Less Terra Bowl. Led by Doug Bonney and his 693 series, Brooklyn Strikers secured 3 wins against Less Terra Bowl. Meanwhile, led by Matthew Taylor and his 521 series, Less Terra Bowl could only eke out 1 win. Brooklyn Strikers climbs 1 spot in the standings to 6th place and now has an even record, while Less Terra Bowl drops 1 spot to 5th.

In this week's Tournament of Champions brackets: Nobody claimed victory in Division 1 (though Dennis Blake and Aaron Barber came closest), while Jonathan Vigliaturo decimated Division 2. Alison Radke made quick work of Division 3, and Lefty Carl Goetz spanked Division 4. Finally, Lefty Ian Goetz (Division 3) walloped this week's Interdivisional bracket. In terms of overall points: Aaron Barber holds the reins in Division 1; Sean Simmons governs Division 2; Freda Schroeder calls the shots for Division 3; and Lefty Carl Goetz and JoAnne Barber are both in the driver's seat (on each other's laps?) in Division 4 in a tie.

Bowlers entering The 200 Club include: Aaron Barber (213,223), Aubrey Moren (211,216,251), Dennis Blake (205,203), Doug Bonney (222,226,245), Jonathan Vigliaturo (200,214), Nick Kinney (268), Russell Bingham (203), and Seth Gunderson (216)
