Balls of Amazingness

Posted by ScooterJ On February - 25 - 2015ADD COMMENTS

Tonight saw yet another reshuffle of the top spots in the league as the power players continue to battle it out. It also saw all 8 teams present for the first time in a long while,... well, if one lone representative from a team of prebowlers counts as a team.Lanes 41&42 seemed to be bowling their way across multiple time zones as they slowly worked their way to a 3-1 victory of 10 Pins 10 Balls over Ballz Out. While Aubrey Moren led his team with a 593 series, perhaps the bigger story is Chadwick Andrews leading his team to nearly doubling their win record with his 516 series. Neither team moves in the standings this week.Lanes 43 & 44: Reeling from last week's sweeping defeat, the mostly-prebowling men of Gimme Headpin sought to fight their way back up the standings. And with a team-leading 686 series by Kody Karnes, it seemed destined to happen. But suddenly Michael Gordon of Squirtin' Tuna decided to roll his new personal best game (256) and new personal best series (605) to deal a crushing blow in game 3. This was enough to take total pins, so the series was split 2-2. Both teams remain in their same spots ion the standings.Lanes 45 & 46: The new league leaders, Sponsored By Rogue, mathematically should have held on to first place longer than they did. Carl Goetz's team leading 663 series only tells part of the story, all four members came out firing and put on strong performances. But sometimes Ryan Doll likes to mess things up for you by rolling his new personal best series (708, his second 700). And his Amazeballs teammates decided to get in on the action, too. With a 3-1 victory, Amazeballs climbs to #1 by the thinnest of margins, while Rogue tenuously drops to #2.Finally, on lanes 47 & 48: The matchup to settle the case of who is the best of the three losing teams. At the beginning it seemed like The Pin Is Mightier might claim the crown, especially with the entire team rolling strikes in multiple frames on lane 47. (That team NEVER rolls all strikes!) But despite Scott Murdock's team-leading 529 series, they just couldn't survive long once Dennis Blake remembered what he was there to be doing. Blake's 591 series led Split It & Hit It to a 3-1 victory. Neither team moves in the standings. The Tournament of Champions saw Ryan Doll take Division 1, he now trails Aaron Barber by 1 point. In Division 2 Bob Brunker failed to beat a blind to in the whole round, leaving Phil Schroeder and Birthday Boy Rab Kaszuba tied for first. Scott Murdock took this round in Division 3, but Freda Schroeder and Dennis Blake still lead in points. Finally, Jake Parrott took Division 4, furthering his hold on first place.Bowlers in The 200 Club this week include: Aubrey Moren (226, 204), Cliff Barendsen (201), Michael Gordon (202, 256), Aaron Barber (207), Bob Brunker (201), Kody Karnes (201, 255, 231), Brian Coe (226, 225, 201), Bryan Mohr (201), Angela Bradford (205), Ryan Doll (245, 214, 249), Jonathan Vigliaturo (233), Ian Goetz (214, 245), Seth Gunderson (202), Carl Goetz (200, 216, 247), and Dennis Blake (223). And now my fingers are cramped. Sheesh.See you next Tuesday!

Big games from Jake Parrott propel him to the top of of this week's charts and his team into a group of 5 teams all within a single series of a tenuous grasp on first place. But enough about Jake for now...The first 4 weeks of this season have seen all 8 teams present only once. So tonight was a refreshing change to finally see all eigh.... wait, never-mind. The matchup between Sponsored by Rogue and Split It & Hit It will have to wait until Split It post-bowls.Lanes 43 & 44: With both Amazeballs The Pin is Mightier missing their lead-off bowler, both of whom having the exact same average, it truly came down to teams-of-three in this fast-moving matchup. Ryan Doll dominated with a 622 series, leading his team to a 4-0 sweep of The Pin is Mightier. Dan Imperial tried to keep The PinIs mighty with his 455 series but it just wasn't enough. Amazeballs climbs to tentative 2nd while The PinIs limply droops to 7th.Lanes 45 & 46: Returning from a two-week absence (or a 24-hour absence depending on whose point of view), Ballz Out showed up completely unaware they had won a game the night before so wondered if tonight would be the night their win column would break into the single digits. It's a good thing it already had, because Jake Parrot of Squirtin' Tunas rolled the best series of his career so far (555) to sweep the night. Jake's performance also earns him tentative MVB and temtative #1 Power Rank for the week. The Tuna climbs to Tentative 4th while Ballz Out remain, well, yeah. :) Lanes 47 & 48: With Ken and Pops hung out at the casino or something, the rest of 10 Pins 10 Balls and Gimme Headpin showed up for what was expected to be an epic stalemate. Instead, the Schroeders must have discovered some new "dietary supplement". Phil Schroeder's team-leading 605 series completed tonight's trifecta of clean-sweeps, kicking 10 Pins up to tentative 3rd. Brian Coe gave it a valiant effort with his 628 series, but Headpin took the biggest tumble of the night, dropping 3 places to 5th place (while still remaining < 3 games out of 1st).The Tournament of Champions can't be updated yet since we once again have a team post-bowling. Sigh.Bowlers in The 200 Club this week include: Aaron Barber (207), Angela Bradford (200), Aubrey Moren (203), Bob Brunker (221, 201), Brian Coe (213, 205, 210), Kody Karnes (206, 224), Phil Schroeder (203, 220), and Ryan Doll (201, 223). And maybe more once we can post Matchup #1.See you next Tuesday!

Nearly a Complete Reshuffle

Posted by Ken On February - 10 - 2015ADD COMMENTS

What a difference one night can make! Despite one team needing to post-bowl once again, seven – count 'em, SEVEN – teams swapped places in the league standings after Week #4 action was posted. While not everything be updated, it's pretty apparent that this week will go down as one of the biggest reshuffles we've seen in quite some time. Here's how almost all of it played out...The results of the matchup between The Pin is Mightier and Ballz Out will have to wait until next Monday when Ballz will take advantage of their last post-bowling opportunity of the season. Stay tuned! On Lanes 43 & 44, Split It & Hit It had their four horsemen together for the first time all season to square off against 10 Pins 10 Balls...and did it pay off. Nearly blanking their competition, Split It got off to a fast start with a Game #1 thumping before stumbling in the second contest. Games #3 and total pins, however, were ably manned by Split It – led by anchor Dennis Blake and his 525 series – to come away with a 3-1 matchup victory. 10 Pin's Aubrey Moren led his team with a 553 series in the losing effort. With the wins, Split It & Hit It tentatively moves up one spot into 6th while 10 Pins 10 Balls slips one spot into 4th place. In a replay of last season's Finals, the men of Sponsored by Rogue decided tonight was when they would emphatically exact their revenge. With a 613 series out of Seth Gunderson – who is tentatively this week's Most Valuable Bowler – Rogue stomped last season's champions in a 3-1 beatdown to knock opponents Gimme Headpin out of the top spot for the first time all season. Kody Karnes and Brian Coe put up a 645 series each but it didn't matter in the least. The two top teams swap places in the standings with Sponsored by Rogue ascending to the top of the heap in 1st while Gimme Headpin falls into 2nd place.Sometimes it takes a little while before a team finds its groove and the members of Amazeballs seem to have found theirs already. Facing off against the Squirtin' Tunas, Ryan Doll put up a team-leading 551 series along with this week's tentative #1 Power Ranked bowler performance out of fellow Amazer Bryan Mohr to take the Tunas 3-1 in league play. Squirtin's Aaron Barber brought about the lone victory for his team with a 604 series and a four pin victory in Game #2 in a 10th frame showdown. With the wins, the Amazeballs climb two spots into 3rd while the Squirtin' Tunas slide one spot into 5th place. The Tournament of Champions almost got off to a complete start...but won't fully update until the post-bowling takes place.Bowlers swimming in Miller Lite in The 200 Club this week include: Aaron Barber (204, 214), Angela Bradford (201), Bob Brunker (224), Brian Coe (206, 225, 214), Carl Goetz (223, 213), Jonathan Vigliaturo (211), Ken M. Wilson (212), Kody Karnes (225, 234), Russell Bingham (209), and Seth Gunderson (242).See you next Tuesday!

The Cream Rises

Posted by Ken On February - 3 - 2015ADD COMMENTS

There's an old saying that history repeats itself...well, considering that we only lost four bowlers from last season, it seems that the league is falling right back into the way it finished in the Fall for the most part. Week #3 is typically the calm after the storm of the first two weeks as averages wildly fluctuate but begin to settle. Tentatively, only two teams swapped places in the league standings as the bowlers of the Spring 2015 season get ready for the next 13 weeks of competition. NOTE: Until the members of Ballz Out complete their post-bowling, the full standings cannot be determined. This also impacts this week's #1 Power Ranked bowler as well as the Most Valuable Bowler results. Lastly, the seeding of the Tournament of Champions also cannot be truly calculated. Dammit, Cliff, hurry up and bowl! :) Having started the season with a perfect 8-0 record, the men of Gimme Headpin looked like they were well on their way to maintaining perfection after taking Game #1 from opponents Amazeballs behind Kody Karnes' 261 game and 703 series. Game #2, however, ended the party as Amazes' anchor Ryan Doll woke up and hoisted a team-leading 613 series to take the narrow victory in Game #2. Game #3 also came down to the wire with the Amazeballs upsetting Gimme by a 6-pin margin. Total pins, however, went to the current league leaders who manage to hold onto their top spot with a league best 10-2 record. The Amazeballs, at 6.5-5.5, remain in 5th place.Down on Lanes 43 & 44, Sponsored by Rogue continues to rack up the wins nearly blanking Squirtin' Tunas but coming away with a 3-1 matchup victory. Led by Carl Goetz and his 610 series, Rogue easily took Game #1 before dropping a close contest in Game #2. The Tunas' Michael Gordon surprised everyone with back-to-back 200+ games and led his team to the Game #2 upset with his 553 series. Game #3 and total pins, however, were chalked up as victories in favor of Sponsored by Rogue who remains in 2nd place with their 9-3 record. The Squirtin' Tunas, now at 7-5, slip one spot into 4th place due to the total pins tiebreaker. The results of the matchup between Split It & Hit It and Ballz Out will be tallied once Cliff and crew post-bowl. Stay tuned! In the lengthiest matchup of the evening, The Pin is Mightier and 10 Pins 10 Balls battled one another to a standstill en route to their 2-2 outcome. After an emphatic win in Game #1, the 10 Pins – led this week by lead-off bowler Phil Schroeder's 613 series – seemed to be completely in charge...but then came Game #2. With anchor Scott Murdock's 489 series, Mightier lived up to their name to take a 10-pin victory in the second contest and followed it up with an 11-pin victory in Game #3. Total pins, however, saved the day for 10 Pins 10 Balls and split the series. With their 7-5 record, 10 Pins gets the benefit of total pins once again to move up one spot to 3rd. The Pin is Mightier, currently at 4-8, remain tentatively in 6th place.Bowlers fighting over who gets to wear the Super Bowl halftime shark costume in The 200 Club this week include: Bob Brunker (202, 202), Brian Coe (208, 248), Carl Goetz (244), Dennis Laube (214), Ian Goetz (205, 214), Ken M. Wilson (236), Kody Karnes (261, 248), Michael Gordon (201, 208), Phil Schroeder (200, 222), Rob Kaszuba (203), and Ryan Doll (220, 224).See you next Tuesday!
