Pinterest Pins the Championship

Posted by Ken On May - 13 - 2014ADD COMMENTS

The Spring 2014 season officially came to an end Tuesday night with the Finals a mere formality as the new league champions wrapped it all up last week. Congratulations once again to Jonathan Vigliaturo, Andy McLeod, Ian Goetz, and Seth Gunderson. This is the first title for both Jonathan and Andy, the 4th for Ian, and the 6th for Seth. With the title already in the bag, Pinterest didn't even have to show up but ended their season with a fitting 4-0 sweeping of opponents The Finger Holes to end their season 9.5 games ahead of the rest of the league. The victories improved Pinterest's record to 47.5-16.5, the 6th best in league history. Andy McLeod led the champs with a 529 series while The F-Holes had the biggest output from Phil Schroeder, who ended his season with a 478 series. The Finger Holes end up in 2nd place with a 38-26 record. On lanes 43 & 44, Bowltron put an exclamation mark on the end of their season with the biggest beat down of the night. Led by Bill Krejci's #1 Power Ranked bowler output of 668 – and this week's Most Valuable Bowler performance out of Bryan Mohr, the guys did not let opponents Schwetty Balls breathe en route to a clean 4-0 sweep. Bob Brunker put up the highest series for Schwetty with his 534 series but it wasn't enough to earn a notch in the win column. Bowltron ends the season as the only team that moved up in the league standings in the Finals, hopping over their opponents to move into 3rd place with their 36-28 record. Schwetty Balls, on the other hand, dropped to 4th place after ending their season at 35-29.The last time Twerking Balls took on Mark It Zero, they came away with three wins. Some things never change. After dropping Game #1, the Twerkers bounced back to win the matchup 3-1 behind Teresa Deterding's team-leading 443 series. A pre-bowling Kody Karnes led the Zeroes with a 620 series to end his season as the 2nd best bowler in league history with his 214 average. Despite the losses (and the all-time worst Finals performance compliments of Ken), Mark It Zero manages to hold onto 4th place with their 32-32 record. The Twerking Balls end their season in 5th place with a record of 25.5-38.5. The 7th and 8th place teams battled one another to a standstill in the final matchup of the evening. With sub Todd Way leading Split It & Hit It with his 371 series, the guys managed to take Games #1 and #2. It wasn't until Game #3 that UpgrayeDD showed signs of life as Josh Robison and his 438 series helped to reverse the run and not only take the final game but total pins as well for the 2-2 split. Neither team budged, however, in the standings with Split It & Hit It ended their season in 7th with their 22.5-41.5 record while UpgrayeDD finishes in 8th place with a record of 19.5-44.5.The Tournament of Champions came down to final battle between opponents Michael Gordon and last season's ToC second place finisher, Ryan Doll. Gordon emerged victorious by a margin of five pins with an 196-191 outcome and will receive the lion's share of the tournament's prize fund. Congrats, Michael!Bowlers ending the Spring 2014 season with a visit to The 200 Club include: Bill Krejci (223, 267), Bob Brunker (200), Kody Karnes (202, 216, 202), Ryan Doll (214, 225), and Scott Murdock (200).Next week is our league's traditional Fun Night, an evening of 9-pin tap bowling (knock down nine pins and it counts as a strike) that starts off with our awards ceremony and prize money disbursement. The Spring 2014 had two great events take place during Week #14. Firstly, the scrappy band of Jonathan Vigliaturo, Andy McLeod, Ian Goetz, and Seth Gunderson wrapped up the season to clinch the championship crown the week before the Finals. Congratulations to this season's new champs! This is the first championship title for JV and Andy, Ian's 4th, and Seth's 6th. In other news, one of the league's long-standing records has fallen to a man serving our country (although it's legality was quickly called into consideration by a small faction of the league – don't worry, it's legal and even confirmed by two members at the front desk). Ready to get all of the details? Read on...Last season, the bulk of the members of Pinterest had to watch as their run to the title evaporated the week before the Finals. This time around? Nuh-uh. Taking the bulls by the horns, the guys took a 3-1 matchup victory over opponents Schwetty Balls to secure the title. Led by Ian Goetz and his 607 series (not to mention career high output from Andy McLeod who shot a 583), the team took Games #1, #2, and total pins despite a trouncing in Game #3. Schwetty's anchor Angela Bradford provided the most fire power with her 523 series but could only secure one win. The wins secure the Spring 2014 title for Pinterest while Schwetty remains in 3rd place. After finding out that he was going to be deployed here in the States and miss the rest of the season, Mark It Zero's powerhouse Kody Karnes asked if he could pre-bowl for the remaining three weeks. After a sub-par performance in his first three games for last week, he fired on all cylinders in his second set and rolled an incredible 773 – the highest series ever rolled in league history. We don't know which made him happier: learning that he had rolled the league's highest series or that those games lined up against opponents The Finger Holes &ndasah; his #1 Power Ranked bowler scores helped to win 3-1 and ended The F-Holes quest for the title this season. Aubrey Moren led the F-Holes in the losing effort with a 605 series. With the wins, Mark It Zero enter the Finals in 5th while The Finger Holes hole up in 2nd place. Tune in next week to see if the legality of bowlers rolling in leprechaun suits are called into question. After coming out and taking Game #1, Twerking Balls looked to add more wins to their tally heading into the big showdown next week but ran into championship surrendering Bowltron. With Ryan Doll's 581 series leading the way, 'tron fought back to not relinquish any more games Tuesday night to end 3-1 in their matchup. Lead off roller Jake Parrott's 469 series led the way for the Twerkers, who enter the Finals in 6th while Bowltron remains in 4th place. It's not officially a season of GutterAlley action unless we have a game end in a tie. In the battle between UpgrayeDD and Split It & Hit It, rookie of the season front-runner Josh Robison put up a 470 series to help UpgrayeDD take Game #1. Split It, led by anchor Dennis Blake's 487 series – along with this week's Most Valuable Bowler performance out of ever-improving roller Mark DeVoe – struck back to take Game #2 by a solid margin. Game #3, however, came down to the final shot and ended in a perfect tie with both teams splitting the point. Total pins went to Split It to take the night 2.5-1.5 to cap off a night in which not a single team moved up or down in the league standings. Split It & Hit It remains in 7th while UpgrayeDD sticks to 8th place. The Tournament of Champions seeding is now set. The divisional winners are as follows:Division 1 = Ian Goetz (30), Seth Gunderson (25)Division 2 = Phil Schroeder (26), Ryan Doll (20)Division 3 = Freda Schroeder (19), Teresa Deterding (19)Division 4 = Michael Gordon (34), Michael Smith (17)The bracket now has the matchups ready to go. Good luck to the eight participants! Bowlers bowing to Kody in The 200 Club this week include: Andy McLeod (207, 214), Anita Osthoff (203), Aubrey Moren (253), Bob Brunker (213), Ian Goetz (237), Ken M. Wilson (202), Kody Karnes (236, 269, 268), Phil Schroeder (213), Rob Kaszuba (204), and Ryan Doll (216).See you next Tuesday!
