The 11th Frame – Week 6, Spring 2013

Posted by Ken March 8, 2013 Spring 2013

The sixth installment of "The 11th Frame" features some interesting nuggets from our Top 25s collection, covering the accolades (and disappointments) of our current and not so-current league rollers. As mentioned already in this week's write-up, birthday girl Freda was pushed up into 1st place outright thanks to her team while Neil Rieger went out on a high point, shooting a 277. Wondering what else happened that you probably didn't know about? Check this out:INDIVIDUALS:

Lynch pins!

Eric Lynch
With this being our 27th season and all, we've knocked down a LOT of pins along the way. For one particular Top 25 we have, in which we showcase who has the highest total pins count throughout their career, it's all about longevity and scoring. Well, with his series this week, Eric Lynch – who is in the middle of his 8th season since his debut in the Spring '03 session – managed to pass Thomas Lin's total output over eight seasons to take over the 25th spot. Welcome to the club, Lynch!
Kaszuba is cleaning up

Rob Kaszuba
Tentatively, Tuesday night only saw one sweep when the Dragon Balls took it to Three Strikes and You're Out! This sweep pushes Mr. Handlebar Mustache himself – Rob Kaszuba – ahead of Mr. Fastest to 100 Wins Ian Goetz on the Top 25 Bowlers Who Have Swept the Most list. Ryan Doll, also on the sweeping team, moves just one sweep behind Jason Carpio, David Codding, and particularly Angela Bradford – who they swept this week.
Kody continues to put up big numbers

Kody Karnes
It has been a while since a rookie came into the league and put up such high numbers. Already having debuted at 13th on the Top 25 Best League Debuts, Kody continues to have a season that is establishing him as a force with which to be reckoned. With his 604 series this week, he's already moved into 20th place on the Top 25 Bowlers with the Most 600+ Series list. At the rate he's going, he could crack the top fifteen before season's end. Not a bad start at all.

TEAMS:

And the winner is...both teams!
In our league, it's always been both fun and nerve-wracking to be in a game that is being settled in the 10th frame. Even better is when it comes down to the final roll by the last bowler. The best reactions to watch, though? When the teams tie. There's always an outburst that is part frustration and part relief. We didn't win, but we didn't lose. Well, that happened to Split It & Hit It and their opponents Brunk Enough to Dowl who pulled off the rarest of ties – they tied in total pins. This has only happened four times in our league's 13 year history and their tie Tuesday comes in at #16 on the Top 25 Highest Scoring Tie Games list.
Top shelf attempt
With only eight games remaining in the first half of this session, we realized that three teams are in range to make some history. Will Strike if Provoked, Snakes on a Lane, and Dragon Balls could – if they continue winning – make their way onto the Top 25 Best First Half Win Records of All Time list. Think they can do it? We'll find out after the position round!

ODDITIES & STRAIGHT UP NUMBERS:

High C
Sure, this one is a stretch, but let's face it...it's an oddity. So we got to looking at the first five spots on both the Top 25 Highest Games of All Time and the Top 25 Highest Series of All Time lists. Apparently, there is an unwritten league rule that your name has to contain a hard "C" sound in it, otherwise you can't make it up there. Codding, Cory, Carl, Ken, Carpio, Glasscock. Consider this an open invitation, Kody Karnes.
